Carb Recomendation for 305

I currently have been running a 600 Edelbrock and a 650 holley/ with the secondary's disconnected. What would you recommend for a carb cfm? The holley has been running very well, but I need this carb for another project. The Edelbrock will foul out plugs within 2 weeks. The edelbrock is 2 years old and the holley is 20+. Can someone throw me a bone?
Thanks
Spud

learn to tune either of them and they will work on that motor.

.
Some questions.
are the floats set correctly?
where is the linkage to the accel pump, which hole?
is the idle too rich?

Contact Thanks, I read the article and It seems like I need different metering rods, and the such. I am not the type of person to throw parts at a problem. So I think I will stick with the holley.
The one big thing that drives me nuts about the edelbrock, is I adjust the mixture screws, and they won't hold the setting.
I think I am going to put the e-brock on the 350 and the Holley on the 305.

X-Orland park is only 3.5 hrs away. I know my sister lives downtown Chicago. And if you are so good with carbs why don't stop by and I will show you why the 650 can't be tuned for the 305!

Sure,
The holley is a 6210-3 its model 4165 dubble pumper 650 cfm Primary's jet sizes of 60 secondary's of 83. Primary bore dia 1 3/8" Secondary bore of 2". And straight from Holley these carbs were replacements for 327-350-402 engines. I have several racer friends that are all old school and they couldn't help me tune it. I am a firm believer that there is always someone that knows more. So that is why I asked on the carb board.

IF you dont want to have to tune, a holley seems like a really bad place to start. That aside, i wouldnt go with a carb without functioning secondaries either. I think I would go over this http://www.telusplanet.net/public/gi.../section_2.htm
and then see if the edelbrock runs any better.

If that's your defination of "throwing parts at a problem", you'd better not keep the Holley because you might have to buy jets, power valves, pump cams, etc. in order to tune it.

You don't "tune" a carb by turning screws.

What happened to the original carb? What distributor are you running?
