ok i just did this yesterday, and I couldnt find all on here but all worked out well. You will need a non computer controlled dist, I got mine from a 75 truck for $30, fuel pressure regulator if you choose to keep the intank pump, mallory 4309, is the best way to go, some fuel line and fittings, and an electrical diagram of your car is essential. I found that for my car on here.

The hardest thing about the whole deal was figuring out how to turn the stock fuel pump without the ecm, but it's actually pretty simple

i would forget the TC lockup. It does not save you that much gas . i had to hook my original dist wires up for the fuel pump to work. mine works great now.

I'm still tuning the carb. The first time I started it, i got a backfire through the carb and flames. So I fine tuned the timing and am still in process of tuning the carb. I havent really been able to get on it with good results yet, but I bought the carb used and it doesnt have all the original stuff. I will say that the idle quality is 100 times better because the tbi couldnt handle my lumpy cam.

You won't gain any power by switching the stock motor from TBI to Carb, so why bother? The main thing you will do is guzzle gas. I went the opposite way carb-TBI.
My TBI 350 handled a Melling MTC1 RV cam fine, and started and ran pretty decent on a F-body LT1 roller cam. It has also handled ported 305 HO heads and ported 193 swirl ports. My current setup with the swirl ports and LT1 cam ran great with 14.5 psi fuel pressure and 6* timing advance, just needed some tweaking.
I have also helped a friend swap a mild 400 underneath a 350 TBI setup in a truck. It ran well for about 4 months on the stock 350 tune with a set of 454 injectors. He then did the prom tuning and it ran better than any carbed mild 400 could.

I would agree that for a stock engine, but it would have taken way too much comp tuning to get te tbi right, so I ditched for a carb. I also like the cleaner engine compartment and not worrying about a dirty egr valve throwing a code, or having a cat just so the comp is right

The reason the the TBI motor does not respond well to a 4bbl carb swap is that the swirl port heads suck. Its like putting a dominator on a GEO Metro. If you put a 750 4bbl on a TPI motor you WILL notice a gain in power. The TPI heads flow way more air . I run L98 heads on a 355 with a ZZ4 cam I swiched from TPI to a 750 4BBL edlbrock and big power jump.

One more thing. Remember, I'm an electrical dummy so don't blast me for stupid questions!!!! Is the VATS system tied into the computer also. Meaning, will I have a problem with ignition after ditching the computer. Or is this thing totally separate from the ECM. I know there is a separate box but just want to know if the wires tie into the ECM also for some kind of signal.

I didnt have a problem with vats. All I did to switch over was change the fuel lines, wire the fuel pump and distributor and it started.

i did this swap in my 91...
fuel pressure reg (the mallory one listed above)
fuel pump runs in backup mode by the ecm, triggered by the OP sending unit. when the motor stalls, the pump turns off.
other than that, carb, carb intake, and a vac. adv distrib are all ya need....
also, i had to do nothing with vats, everthing worked just as normal.

the TBI heads have very small ports that are great for velocity up to about 4500rpm then they fall flat on ther face. the TBI heads are only good for low end TQ, you cant rev em up. I swaped TBI heads for L98s and went 1/2 second quicker in the 1/4mi with no cam change

if youre gonna go as far as converting to carb, ditch the 305. I have done a lot to mine and have good power, but if I would have spent the same money on a 350, I would have a lot more.

That wasn't a joke. Mine are slightly modified. Mine pull fine up to 5,800 rpm, through a stock sized TBI and stock TBI intake. Stock TBI heads with a good cam can be reved to 5,300 or so without any problem.
