fuel delivery

Does any one have problems getting enough fuel to their engine. I keep running flat bowls dry even after changing to 140 gph edelbrock mechanical pump designed for the edelbrock carb. Ive checked lines fittings pickup and gas cap and still cant seem to keep enough fuel under high load conditions. from an idle i can stand on it and light the 295s up with ease and then it just falls flat on its face. Any ideas welcome

Engine: Usually
Transmission: Sometimes
Axle/Gears: Behind me somewhere
Strainer in the gas tank, or the lines themselves; crudded up with the crusty funk of the ages

its an edelbrock not new but came off a 406 that turned high 13s in an s10 blazer. def more motor than i have. The engine is a fresh rebuild less than 5000 miles, have removed both ends of the fuel line and blew shop air through no prob there removed tank replaced strainer and pickup assy, went from stock pump to the larger edelbrock as described earlier tried diff carbs but then installed in line fuel filter and found that it did not stay full so elimnated carb from being the immediate prob. have drove with gas cap off to see if it is not venting no change. Have checked fuel line temps with IR pyrometer and none should be high enough for vapor lock.

Will changing carbs help anything if I cant keep enough fuel in the in line filter? Is there something about the edelbrock that could prevent the flow of fuel through the lines?

no idea check you fuel output with the line off into an empty jug if you take the line off and hit the key and there is alot of fuel it is something internally in the carb. GL

Was the camshaft new? Roller? Flat tappet? Some 305 cams were soft and the fuel pump lobe could wear down. The pushrod could be worn down also. Did you have the pump apart?
