TPI TO DUAL QUAD

IM REMOVING MY STOCK 350 TPI SETUP AND THINKING OF GOING TO A EDELBROCK DUAL QUAD SETUP. THEY GOT THEM FROM SUMMIT WHICH COMES WITH:

INTAKE
2 500CFM CARBS
AIR CLEANER AND BASE
ALL GASKETS
ALL LINKAGE AND
DUAL FEED FUEL LINE

I JUST DONT WANT TO DEAL WITH THE TPI THE CAR IS AN 87 GTA AND THE 5.0L BLEW(BEFORE I BOUGHT CAR) THE GUY BEFORE ME BOUGHT A 350 TPI OUT OF AN 89 IROC-Z AND HAD IT BOLTED IN BUT NOT WIRED UP. NOW ITS MY T/A. I DONT KNOW IF I'M GOING TO CARB IT OR JUST SELL IT AND MOVE ON THE SOMTHING ELSE. IF I DO CARB IT IM THINKING OF GOING WITH THIS COMBO

What are your intentions? Dual carbs are for appearance, not performance.

First off... STOP YELLING!!!! TALKING IN CAPS MEANS YOU ARE YELLING AND ITS REALLY ANNOYING TO LOOK AT TOO!!!

Now, on to your question. Don't do with a dual carb setup unless you are strictly doing this for looks. You will go faster with a single 4bbl carb and high-performance intake. Its been proven thousands of times, again and again. Also, if you don't have alot of carb tuning experience to begin with, trying to setup two carbs properly is a total nightmare. I once heard someone say:

"It only takes one bad day to make the sanest man alive go totally bonkers"

And I can't think of a better way to explain what its like trying to tune a pair of 4bbl carbs, especially on such a small engine, when you have little to no carb tuning experience.

IMO, the ticket for you would be to get an Edelbrock RPM or Weiand Stealth (8150 PN) and get a 4150/4160 style Holley, 650-750 cfm. Thats about the best street/strip setup out there for a mild 350 IMO.

There are better ways to go about this than just jumping into a dual quad setup. But, to each his own. Have fun tuning

WTF mabe, but not in all out performance --tunnel ram for example or sheet metal intakes!!!!!!!!!!!
Yeea you are right as most applications they are for looks and single with todays intakes will outperform a dual,, but who can argue with the looks of the old 302 intakes from elderbrock Cross ram

now im still kind of iggnorant when it comes to this...but im workin on it...

what is that statement based on cuz ive never head that before i would imagine more carbs=equal more fuel flow=better base for power...im not trying to dispute u but im just looking for an explanation if possible thanks

Back before there was an aftermarket, the only way to get more flow than a small OEM carb was to use two small OEM carbs. Now that there is an aftermarket which offers things like 4500 series carbs that flow up to 1400 CFM, there's not much need to deal with the tuning problems of dual carbs.

tunnel rams looks great

They also run great too....as long as you dont keep messing with them like i do thats where the whole "it only takes one bad day..." thing comes into play

one thing though as much as i hate to admit it, a single carb would be much easier to tune. but the way the car looks, its just not an option anymore

if your just going for the low rise dual carb, you would be better with a single. when i do things i tend to go a bit over board, but thats why i drive a toyota to work :P
