still won't start
still won't start
ok... i posted a thread a few months ago about my 82 TA cranking but not starting completely. i figured that it was a fuel problem. when i sprayer starter fluid it would start for a split second and die right after that. i can hear the fuel pump running and i bought a new fuel filter and it still doesn't start comletely any other ideas that it could be other than replacing the entire fuel like from tank to carb?
here are the details if you missed the last post:
i have an 82 TA 5.0 originally fuel injected and the guy i bought it off of took the crossfire fuel injection out and put an intake manifold and 4 bbl carb. it ran rough right before it died and then one day i went to get in it and it didn't start at all unless i spray starter fluid in it.
i was just wondering if i should take everything out and put all new lines and a 350 block and all that or is there something that i am missing to check?!
thanks

how old is the gas in the car? Sometimes the gas goes bad after sitting awhile. Drain the gas out of the tank and replace with fresh gas.

Since you say you can hear the fuel pump running, I assume you kept the in-tank electric pump from the EFI. There is a fuel filter back by the tank that may be your problem.
Take the line off of the carb inlet, run the pump, see if you get flow.

The factory pump was inside. That's why it's referred to as "in-tank".
Take the line off the carb for this flow test, not at the pump.

i know that the pump was in the tank. i was referring to the filter, is it outside the tank or with the pump? i took of the line to the fuel filter underneath the hood before it gets to the carb and no fuel came out.

Ah, sorry, didn't understand what you were asking.
There is a sock filter on the pump inside the tank, and a filter can in the line just in front of the tank/rear axle.
Could you hear the pump running while you had the line off?
Is there a fuel pressure regulator somewhere in the line?
