HELP!!! Engine not starting after carburettor overhaul

Need some help here guys...Bought myself a overhaul kit to my 87 Quadrajet E4ME Computer controlled carb...

Opened up the carb yesterday and changed the parts that came with the kit....float, gaskets, needle and so on...

Havent done anything else..Not drilled, or adjusted anything....Mounted the carburettor today on my car and trying to start but No.....

Tried many times to start and after a while I unmounted the carburettor again...There was No fuel in the carburettor...Just a little drop about...

I tried to blow through the fuel inlet but no air comes through...Shouldn't here be easy to blow through????...Haven't changed the fuel filter though...But when I'm trying to blow without the fuel filter in it I still have troubles to blow...Is this something about the needle???

Please help me here guys...Need my car to go running again...The engine is stock by the way..No tunning..And the worst is that the car started perfectly before the overhaul
But since the car has gone almost 90,000miles I thought it was time for an simple overhaul..

Please help me...

Recheck your float level and ensure the needle is hung properly from the float arm. If that doesn't do it try installing the old needle and seat.

Re: HELP!!! Engine not starting after carburettor overhaul

OK...I have tried several ways now..New float, old needle and old seal...
Old float, old needle and old seal but i still can't breath through the fuel-inlet when i put the top cover on the carb...When carb is unmounted it is no problem to breath through fuel-inlet.....in my opinion it seems like the float is pushing too much on the needle top so that you need BIG pressure to press up needle....Should'nt I be able to blow with my mouth (i don't smoke)
through the fuel inlet when everything is mounted????

Re: HELP!!! Engine not starting after carburettor overhaul

The float should only apply pressure to the needle when the bowl is full. When it's not 'pushing' down the fuel pressure should be enough to lift the needle off the seat and fill the bowl. You probably won't be able to blow through it with the needle in place. With the top off verify that the float is hanging down and not applying pressure to the needle. There should be a little gap between the two. Make sure nothings hung up, that your L shaped hanger for the bracket is in right-there's a slot for the 'L' part on one side.

If everything looks good you may want to fill the bowl with fuel and see if the fuel pump catches up. I've also seen the little check valve in a new filter cause enough restriction to stop fuel flow, I always remove them. I'd replace the old filter with a new one while you're there.

Make sure the little wire clip on the needle is properly attached to the float.

Re: HELP!!! Engine not starting after carburettor overhaul

Ok..I was out in my garage trying more and more...Now I have changed the: needle, needle seat and float to the old one...When I'm breathing through the fuel inlet now it looks good..The needle raises until it hits the float...
But when I put on top cover on carburettor it is impossible to breath...In other words the wire clip on the needle is pushing against the float...The float is lying in the bottom of the float bowl and everything is in place...
Hmm...this is confusing me...

Re: HELP!!! Engine not starting after carburettor overhaul

Keep working on it you'll find it's probably something simple. Try putting the cover back on without the gasket, then without the MC Plunger, etc. Something's binding and causing a problem. While you're experimenting you can leave out the TPS and booster pump to make it easier assembling/reassembling.

AND: 'Make sure the little wire clip on the needle is properly attached to the float.'

Doesn't sound like it is.

Re: HELP!!! Engine not starting after carburettor overhaul

I solved the problem...Like you said naf it was someting very simple..I am almost embarrised to say it but it was just the wire clip...I didn't knew that was going to be attached in that way..lol....
So after I tried that I could blow through the fuel inlet without any problem..
And now the car is starting and working perfectly

Thanks for the help guys..I really appreciate it....Now I have actually overhauled my first carb...Have to start at one easy level..lol..
