Edelbrock Linkage Body

Which Edelbrock part number do I need for my 82 Camaro linkages to connect perfectly? I don't know which one is on there now but the passing gear cable doesn't line up at all. Anyone have the part number so I can just pop down to the local parts shop without any worries?

Re: Edelbrock Linkage Body

you shouldnt need any special linkage, edelbrock makes linkage kits for ford and chryslar, it works on my 83, cant see how yours is any different.

Re: Edelbrock Linkage Body

For the automatic transmission, there is a cable that stretches to a linkage on the carb. It only connects when I pull the cable so its taught and then some to engage it. Does yours do that? If so then all of my troubles are solved, however, that one thing doesn't connect the way I remember it connecting with my Q-Jet.

Re: Edelbrock Linkage Body

i have a manual, the included **** kit doesnt fit in the hole on the accelerator cable, so i use a zip tie and tie it through the hole to the carb hole throttle, works, not perfect, but edelbrock doesnt make any camaro kits so have to come up with my own.

Re: Edelbrock Linkage Body

I think they call it a tranny kickdown linkage, for passing gear. It's on the lower section, not the accelerator cable, not the spring, but on the lower bracket, at least for my Performer 1406 it works that way. It's the little black **** that is at the lowest part of the carb, or should be, anyway.

Re: Edelbrock Linkage Body

ive got the 1406 as well, as far as i know they claim it should just attach because theres no converstion kits, so youd have to assume that it should work.

Re: Edelbrock Linkage Body

I just cut out a small piece of sheet metal and bolted it to the carb, drilled in the **** where the piece fits on and connected it there. The problem is that it shouldn't fit that way! Carbs don't do that!!!

Severly irritating.

Re: Edelbrock Linkage Body

It's not a kickdown cable, it's a throttle valve cable, combining the functions of the kickdown cable and the vacuum modulator on older transmissions. The TV cable geometry is critical to the correct operation and longetivity of the transmission.

Re: Edelbrock Linkage Body

Well, then if Edelbrock doesn't make a part to adapt to the TV cable then it's impossible for me to mimic the geometry perfectly by using home-made parts. I think I have it close.

An '82 would have a TH200C, which did still have the kickdown cable.

Re: Edelbrock Linkage Body

Yeah, it has a kickdown, and it's pretty damn close to lining up completely. I missed the adjustment clip on the cable just near the back of it, so I can hook it up, hit the clip, and it adjusts tension. five7kid, if you look at the back of the intake manifold, you'll see the wire coming up to the carb, and there's a clip just on the back that adjusts your tension when your throttle is wide open.
