Carbed rev limiter

Can you have a rev limiter with a carbureted car? My car has cruise control so shouldn't it be able to have a rev limiter. If anyone knows how to install one or programm it in let me know.

Re: Carbed rev limiter

...Why would cruise control have anything to do with a rev limiter?

I second the above statement though. Many aftermarket ignition options include a rev limiter feature.

Right foot...

These guys are right, there are a variety of aftermarket rev-limiter and ignition control options. On a mostly stock car its not of much important, especially with an automatic.

MSD 6AL box here with a 7,500 chip in it. I've hit it a few times in the burnout box or just playing around on the street.

Re: Carbed rev limiter

i have a standard, and i figured that if the computer can control my throttle for cruise control then it could control the throttle for a rev limiter. But i planned on an msd ignition already so i'll go with that. New fuel injected cars computers cut the gas off for rev limiters, so i had a feeling you might not be able to do that with a carb considering its mostly mechanical. Thanks.

That is correct, fuel cut on a carb is not possible. Modern fuel injection systems cut fuel as opposed to spark because cutting spark places unburnt fuel in the exhaust, sensors and cat converters don't like that very much. The cruise control only works as a pull on the throttle cable, and would in no way be able to limit revs.
