finally got my carb tuned
well after about a month of intake and carb problems i finally got it all taken care of.. and i must say for a 305 she will go...but all those 350 parts i have are driving me nuts with all there taunting lol...but first i need to find a good short block...but my problems started from cracked intake manifold and went from there..i got bored to day pulled the car in the shop popped the hood removed everything down to the manifold threw that POS on the floor grabbed ahold of the ECM wiring harness and gave it a good yank removed that mess(3miles) of wiring and ECM pulled my new intake out of the box and installed it,installed my NOS plate while i was at it opened the carb jetted it to 63,9.5 PV and a 35 squirter set the idle screws at around 1 3/4 out with a brown spring in the vac. sec.knocked the timing back 2* ran all my NOS lines hooked it all up and all i really need to say is WOW it was like going from a honda to a firebird lol now i need to make a trip to get my bottle topped off and see how she likes the spray

Sorry I don't recall your story, but what manifold did you put in?
Did you put in a different distributor? 2 degrees doesn't sound like much initial timing.
I really can't agree with the comments about the ECM harness (assuming it wasn't hacked up before you started pulling). I took my '82 harness out in one piece in about an hour, all labeled, and it fits nicely in a small box. It's available if anyone has chopped theirs up and needs a replacement (no knock sensor on this system).

Re: finally got my carb tuned
Weiand action plus is what i started with but i had to oval the holes and had a quarter of an inch left after and it just craced the sides out when i bolted it down and leaked really bad...its an hei distributor and i dont know where exactly it was set timing wise, just did it by ear till it felt the best power and responce wise just knocked it back 2* from that cause i can read the timing tab is dirty as hell.and yes the harness was all chopped up before i started whom ever had the car before me removed and cut stuff of from it

timing by ear is pointless, it will never be within any range close to as accurate as a timing light. clean off your timing tab and do it the right way with a dial back timing light.

Re: finally got my carb tuned
yeah does anyone have timing specs on a 87 without computer crap and such cause i hear so many differant things my motor runs the best right where its at its like the second point up which is what...im taking it to my friends tomorrow and let him fine tune everything and install my lock up kit and starting the spray tuning cause he is a god at it all..so its up to him now he will get everything worked out and give me the spec on everything..

i would imagine the 10-14 degree range if the distributor has 24 degrees of advance at 3500. Shoot for 32-38 at 3500 rpm with the timing light, go up 1 degree at a time at the track until highest mph is reached, then note what it is. Jetting, etc won't affect what total timing the engine likes best.
