Anyone run a single plane manifold on a 350 and had fab up an EGR?
Anyone run a single plane manifold on a 350 and had fab up an EGR?
Looking to build up a 350 or 383 and convert to a carb'd setup, and would like to have the RPM's in the higher range, so I'd be needing a single plane manifold. Yet I still have emissions to worry about, so I also still need the EGR valve. Has anyone worked around this issue?

It's not a normal thing to do because an engine that can properly use the powerband of a single plane typically isn't going to be sniffed. Or inspected.
A long time ago there was a plate you could put under the carb that had an externally-plumbed EGR valve attached to it. Haven't seen one in many, many years.

I am not trying to be smart by this comment.
"Does it have to actually work or do you have to have one for a visual inspection"
We do not have those inspections here in SC so I do not know. I have heard of those in GA only having to have the "items" to pass a visual.

I don't know what they will want, so I'd be better off with it working. I should also state, my goal is really to have an engine based around the AFR 195's, which has an operating range of 2000-6500. I'd like to find an EGR manifold to work with this, or, like I'm guessing at, use a single plane to do the job, with an external EGR.

Performer RPM works well with that combo. I have tried both and have the rpm on now. It may be eaiser to fab a piece for this intake.

The Performer RPM would be perfect in the range, yet doesn't have the EGR. The Performer does, but its idle-5500rpm's.

You're basically stuck with no EGR or an intake that doesn't quite match the cam's powerband. If inspection isn't an issue, i.e., they just sniff the exhaust, a cam like the ZZ4 has enough overlap that EGR isn't needed to keep NOx down.
AFR 195's may be fine to 5500-6000 RPMs on a 383, while the 350 would want to spin higher.
You understand the only "legal" carb would be a computer controlled q-jet.

Advertised powerband idle to 6000 RPMs. With gasket matching and a little clean-up, it should support a 383 and the AFR 195's (although the 195's are probably still a little bigger than optimum).

Thanks for the tip and good advice five7kid! Hopefully, the non-computer controled carb wont be an issue. I'll find out after I try it.

From what I've gathered hanging around here, the Holley probably will be a problem.
