I have a carbed 406 sbc with 750cfm edelbrock carb that i just was able to get running recently after the swap. I live in a cold cold winter climate. Is it normal with all carbs to have to pump the pedal 100 times so that it can start and then rev it a little so it can stay on and warm up.
I was just wondering if my carb was ok or if something is wrong.

btw i was being sarcastic in that it takes me 100 times to pump it in order to start. its more like 15 times.

 

Get the choke working, it'll start much easier and run much better while it warms up.

 

yeah its pretty normal to have to pump the pedal what i normal do it pump it twice then let it sit for a sec then start it

 

choke definitely will help to make a difference. My previous carbed 400 swap had a similar issue because I never hooked it up. Summer starts were no problem. Winter time took a dozen pumps and sitting on the gas for 5-10 min to let it warm up or else back to step 1.

 

So then its somewhat normal.
i've been test driving it cuz the swap is still fresh and theres this other problem that has been troubling me 3 times now.
whenever i start driving it and it somewhat warms up 10 min into my drive, the car will just stall(turn off). And then it wont start at all.
Is this a carburator problem? or should i post this in a different thread?

I need to fix this asap... for the sake of my sanity.

 

We need a lot more information about your set-up - does the carb have a choke, is it working at all, what distributor are you using, what is the timing set to, do you have the vacuum advance hooked up and how, are you checking the timing with the vacuum advance disconnected, what cam/heads/exhaust are you running, what air cleaner do you have?

I have the same problem with my camaro and my 67 pickup won't even start with out puring gas down the carb but as soon as it starts the truck will run fine, but i'm planing on putting EFI on both of them.
