I've read the sticky's what about the electronics??
I've been all around the site reading but i'm still confused on one thing. I've got a older carb'd 350 complete with a vaccum advance hei dizzy. I have a return style afpr. I'm wanting to pull the 305 tbi out of my 91 rs camaro. The camaro has a 5spd which I'm going to reuse. What do I need to do with the computer? I was planning on taking out all the sensor sending units and transferring them but what are you suppose to do? Is there any stickys on this?

forget the sensors, no good on carb conversion - keep the temp sensor on driver head, and oil pressure sending unit above oil filter - both these run yout gauges - yank the ECM out - you'll just need a lock up kit for the torque converter.

You'll also need a means to power the in-tank electric fuel pump.

Oh, yeah - guess he will need gas too huh?
With the TBI system, the pump will actually run off the OPSU without any wire changing anywhere, but it takes the car an extra second or two to start since it has to sense oil pressure before the pump will run. I tapped into my OPSU fuel pump wires and connected to a relay that gets a hot-in-run signal to energize, that way my pump starts the minute I turn the key on.

On my carb conversions I've always left the ECM in place. It's handy for giving you a 2 second fuel pump prime at key-on as well as activating the fuel pump while cranking on the starter. On later cars it also has a hand in running the speedo, I believe. All the other gagues run independently of the ECM (tach, temp, oil pressure, voltage, etc. In any case, I leave the ECM in and just pull the check engine light so it's not glaring at me the whole time I'm driving. Of course, none of the various engine sensors are hooked up to it any more since they would serve no purpose.

Doesn't have anything to do with the speedo function - my 1992 has no ECM and speedo works fine. Could leave in place to get the 2 second prime I suppose...
But there was just too much gratification when I set that sucka on fire and danced naked around it!

Thanks for the info guys I thought i'd have to hack up the wiring harness. Will the fans still work right as long as the temp sensor is hooked up? The car is a 5spd so I don't have to worry about converter lock up. Also could I just run the fuel pump to a external switch inside the car and just turn it on when I start it up?

Sorry for all the questions but what about the vats system? I'm leaving the ecu in just in case.

I have the same name over there. Guess it doesn't fit anymore since I've been here several years now, and been through 3 fbods.
