TBI to Carb
I have a 91 RS that has a 350 crate motor with a TBI setup and I am wanting to go to a carbed setup. I have a few questions on what I should buy, I already have a Holley Street Avenger 600 and Edelbrock Performer EPS intake and all the gaskets. Now I need to figure out what AFPR I need and what lines to cut and use and what to disregaurd. I would like to use the stock intank pump cause I really don't want to have to drop the tank. If there are any pics you guys could post that would be great, or any parts that you could recommend I would really appriciate it.
Thanks, Chris
Thanks, Chris

Re: TBI to Carb
You said you wanted to use the stock intank fuel pump, so all you need is a Mallory 4309 fuel pressure regulator avail from Summit about $100.

Re: TBI to Carb
Now if I use the stock pump, will I have to drop the tank for any reason? Also if I use the Mallory AFPR is that all I will need to do, or do I have to run a bigger return line like I have heard a couple people say? I am trying to save as much money as possible because this car has been in an accident and its going to cost me $3000 to put a new rear clip on it and paint the whole car. Sorry for asking the same questions, I am just trying to get a better understanding of what I have to do before I buy a bunch of the wrong stuff.
Thanks, Chris
EDIT: Just double checking before I order. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/MAA-4309/
Thanks again, Chris

Re: TBI to Carb
No tank dropping - at least not until that factory pump dies. The Mallory 4309 will adjust the fuel pressure down to the 5.5 you need for the carb. THat is the right one.
You'll need some rubber fuel injection hose - make sure you use FI hose, it's about $3 a foot compared to carb hose that is only $1 a foot, and it will say Fuel Injection on it.
You'll need adapters to run from the fuel line connections on driver side fender to the carb - these are available at almost any hardware store in brass in the plumbing section - you need one that fits the feed line connector that has a 3/8 barb and one for return line that has a 5/16 barb. Then also barbed connectors to the Mallory, and out again to the carb. I think the Mallory unit uses standard NPT fitting, the fuel lines use a metric, but the hardware store has what you need in brass, just takes some playing around to get the right threads.
Put an inline fuel pressure guage ($10) between the Mallory and the carb, as well as a filter.

Re: TBI to Carb
be warned, when i did this same thing you want to do, i HAD to run 3/8 return. with 5/16 return my 4309 regulator would only drop pressure down to 8.5 psi. installed the larger return and could get down to 2 psi with the adjustment screw removed(4309 spec)

Re: TBI to Carb
Thank you, I ordered my Mallory 4309 the other day and I just got it, from Summit. Now I have to put all my stuff aside cause the car is in the body shop on the frame machine.
Thanks, Chris
