Where did this spacer come from? Which carb are you using it with?

A Carb spacer isn't there for any kind of a seal. It's only there for Performance. The gaskets, yeah, you have to replace those. The spacer it's self? Not unless you're changing from spread bore to square bore.

Re: carb spacer need help
The spacer is one of 3 types:
1) 4 Equally sized holes
2) 4 Holes Siameised (2 Large and 2 Small)
3) Just a square hole.
I'm guessing you have number 2. you need a Gasket between the Intake Manifold and the spacer, and also one inbetween the spacer and the Carb. Those should be two different shapes. I think what you have is the Spreadbore to Squarebore converter. It's acting like a spacer, but I think the main reason it's there is so that the PO could use an Edelbrock without changing the Intake. I have a similar setup on my $900 82 Camaro. If you're running that Edelbrock, Make sure you have the Vacuum Advance Distributor. The original carb was a Computer Controled Q-Jet. Without that, the Computer doesn't know what to think and can't match the Spark to the Ignition timing. The only other option is to put back a Computer Controlled Q-Jet.
Sorry, I tend to ramble. i'm sure someone will correct my mistakes that i've probably made
