Newbie help required

Hello folks,

I have a confession, I'm confused. To start with, whats known.

What I have is a 1987 305ci carb motor, with the CCC(computer controlled carb) with EGR, AIR recirculation etc.

What I want to do, throw all the EGR, smog etc crap away.

What do I need? Well it seems I need and inlet a carb and suitable dizzy, so I can just junk the computer controlled bits.

There are SO many combinations available for these engines I don't know where to start, can anyone reccomend a decent daily drive set up in laymans terms and maybe advise of a supplier they have had some good results with?

I cant get the standard one to run right without flooding and being MEGA rich, which is not helpful on the wallet

Welcome aboard thirdgen.org.

It's pretty much a given that you will spend more money replacing the carb/distributor/etc. with non-computer parts than you will fixing what you have; and running a non-computer carb/distributor will cost you more in gas down the road.

What have you done so far to the factory setup? Is the SES light coming on? If so, have you checked the codes? Is the choke working properly?

You speak wise words there five7kid. I think i should calm down and be a bit less bull in a china shop. Time to get a decent carb rebuild kit and try that first, i have no codes on the SES light, thankfully.

Five7 has that effect on people. If you live in a place that has emissions testing, you must keep your smog stuff. Also, it's Fedrally mandated tha since your car came with smog stuff, youneed to have smog stuff and it's illegal to remove it. That said, it' s your car. lol Lots of people have removed that stuff and in the end, it's MAYBE worth 4hp to remove it. Maybe.

Ozz, normally i would totally agree with you, although i should point out that im in the UK, sooooooo, no emissions testing as such (well only very basic CO test at this age) so i can save weight and maybe gain the 4hp you mention WIN!!

So, i ordered a carb rebuild kit and will attempt to get it running nicely on standard set-up before spending out on shiny bits for show

Out of interest what would a carb kit run you price wise over in the USA? It was 45 pounds here.

We can get them for about $30, or 20-pounds roughly.

You should check out Pontiac Owners Club, UK

I'm currently living here in the UK and we have a ton of members and lots of resources to help guys out with parts/repairs etc. Where do you live at? I'm over here in Norfolk County, East Anglia region.

I'm stationed at RAF Lakenheath here in Suffolk. Yes, I have my car here. If you take a look at my cardomain site below you can see pictures of it when I first brought it here. it's the top two on the page with "Anglia Tyre". I also have a link to the POC page in my signature.

Re: Newbie help required

Ahhh, my car came into the country at RAf lakenheath back in 1994

Ive gone the cowards route im afraid, thats right, no computer and normal carb and hei diszzy.

Here in the UK emissions and EGR etc etc are not worried about and when i found that i needed a new TP switch (here about 60 quid plus the wait) i decided to just stick the normal bits on, heres a pic to prove it
