how do I modify an E4me for 400hp?

Hey guys, I'm new here and I could definitely use some help. This is not in relation my 87 T.A.. This is for a 1987 Monte Carlo S.S.. I understand that our cars are very similar when it comes to the E4me ccc system. I'm building a 350 .040 over, 9.6:1 with vortec heads. I want to keep the e4me and the whole ccc system, minus the egr. I will be doing a rebuild on the carb soon and I could use some.advice. This is my DD so I need it up and EU.running asap. I understand the basic rebuild. My question is what other mods should I do during my rebuild to support 400-425hp. I'm a using xe274 cam so I'm not sure about mods to the carb for idle, and vacuum as well as primary and secondary setups. I really don't know where to begin besides the basics rebuild. Any help is appreciated.

You don't really have to do anything.

Really? That would make me so happy!! I've read something about the idle.circuit and drilling. It didn't make sense to me because i thought the ccc takes care.of all those changes. I can't.find any.#a on vacuum for that cam. I don't know if that will effect anything. What would u suggest for primary and secondary rods and jets?

I robbed many factory rods and jets out of dualjet and quadrajet CCC cars in the junkyard before finding the right combination on my cammed 403 Olds powered Cadillac. Most including myself prefer DR rods on a A-G hanger for up to around 400 HP, however most 305 HO engines came with these stock. My G20 van had DRs and a F hanger on its 305. I later swapped a B hanger on mine.

I never had a problem with the primary side, just have to get the right combination of hangar and rods to get the car to the proper A/F ratio at WOT. That can be done easily with an A/F gauge (wide-band preferable) and some testing. You will need an electric fuel pump (in tank or external) to supply enough fuel to make 400hp - I don't trust block pumps.

I was looking at the Holley red.pump or the Carter. I figured 80 gph minimum. Probably 100gph to be safe. There is alot of choices around $100. I just don't want to run a return line. Oh, and on Grumpys site he describes how to measure and bend stock hangers for whatever height u could need. That the best read so far. I'm going to design a universal remote egr kit for vortec guys.

I agree that at that kind of power a good electric pump is the way to go. I also recommend replacing the fuel line with a larger fuel line like a -8 AN (1/2") if you are doing a lot of drag racing.

This is just my preference, I also recommend a return style regulator or a pump that has a bypass line back to the tank. This keeps the pump running cooler and helps it live longer.
