carb to hood clearance

I have a 92 rs. Just built a 350 for it. Im looking at I takes right now and was wondering if anyone has a air gap I take with edelbrock carb and if that will clear factory hood. Id also like to put a air cleaner on it. It will most likely hace to be a drop base. But if anybody has ran into clearance problems with an air gap intake please let me know

Re: carb to hood clearance

I don't think it will close with the air gap, I know I just did the carb swap yesterday and I would have been able to close my hood...I have a performer rpm, holley 650 double pumper and with a 3 in filter and drop base it soul
Would be impossible for my stock hood to clear. (Luckily I am running a3in rise ram air hood)

The carb mount does not sit any higher on an "Air Gap" intake than on the same type non-"Air Gap" intake. Meaning the carb on a Performer Air Gap won't be any higher than on a Performer manifold; or a carb on a Performer RPM Air Gap won't sit any higher than on a Performer RPM.

As long as you don't use an adapter or spacer, and do use a drop base air cleaner, the hood will close.

Re: carb to hood clearance

Good thread. Im planning out a motor swap in my 87 firebird and was wondering if a airgap with a AED mod holly choke horn removed holly would fit under my stock power buldge hood? And base dropped air filter

Re: carb to hood clearance

When I first modified my 86 T/A, LG4, I installed an old Performer manifold with a Holley carb and I modified the stock air cleaner to fit over the Holley fuel bowls and it fit but it was close. Later I had installed a Performer RPM and then in the stock air cleaner would hit the hood so I had to get a drop base air cleaner.

Re: carb to hood clearance

I would think the Edlebrock 1221 or 1207 would fit. Here's a quick search link on Summit

I need one for a stock bird "Power bulge hood", that's drop base enough to allow me to fit a performer RPM or RPM Air Gap intake but is still sealed like the factory ones is so I can use my factory style top.
