Tuning a carb

I know very little about carburetors. I know how thiet basic design works, but not many details. I know there are screws which controls the amount of fuel let into each barrel but beyond that I know very little. I am strongly concidering changing from TBI to a carb this spring and I'd like to get a head start on how to tune one. I will look for reading material, but I was hoping I could get a general into here.

Thanks for the link Jester, that certainly did help answer many of my questions. Now all I have to do is figure out for sure whether to go with TPI or a carb.

That article was very helpful, but I have one question.
How does one measure the vacuum pressure in the manifold while driving 30+ MPH?

A long vacuum hose. run the gauge inside the car or tape it to the windshield.
