I'll second that! I've learned that even a successful Q-Jet rebuild won't make up for all of that computer crap and sensors that start going bad. Old CCCs will start nickle-and-diming you to death. It's just one little thing after another. I've done the CCC to standard Q-Jet/HEI vacuum advance distributor conversion. Best thing I've ever done!

Just remember that if you need to pass emissions that doing the above computer-ditching exercise will make your car emissions illegal. If your state does a VISUAL underhood inspection for emissions equipment they will likely pick up on the non-stock carb and distributor and fail you. If you have no emissions or only need to pass a tailpipe sniffer then you'll be just fine.

Check the magazine articles for Steve Green's piece on Thirdgen Rebirth. He sent his carb & ECM to Jet Performance along with an answer sheet about his combination (he did a 383), and bolted it in. He later did ignition upgrades (MSD) to get out of it what it was capable of.

as for what that other guy said suggestion, they'll make the q-jet run awesome but do you really need to re-finance you house for that?? a new 600 edlebrock is only 200$ not cheap but defintely less than a jet q-jet re-bulid!!!

I slapped a holley on my 78 firebird in the past but don't recall whether I did the throttle and trans linkage or the mechanic. Did you have to get any kind of adapter for the holley as far as the throttle and trans cables go?? Cheers

Do you know offhand what a venture like this would cost? Did it still pass emissions?

Thanks,
Mark

The article didn't mention cost - you'd have to call Jet. He did pass emissions on the first try, according to the 2nd article.

Hey 1985-Z28,

Can you tell me what color your Mixture Control Selonoid is, and roughly what shape. I got a "new" q-jet carb off an earlier application (81-85) and the plug dosnt match up very well with the selonoid connector. Im wondering if i could get a plug from an earlier application.

Thanks.
