Edelbrock carb stumbles off idle

I just build me a complete motor with the edelbrock performer RPM package, cam, carb, intake. I am using a mallory regulator with my intake pump to fuel my carb. The car stumbles at idle and almost dies until 1500 RPM's. I am using the stock converter. The cam has 488,501 lift. Why is it doing this?

Bright red 87 GTA with 350 tuneport. Basic mods such as K&N filter, Flowmasters, Wells MAF, TPIS air foil, Accel 8.8mm plug wires with , Accel distributor cap and rotary buttons.Gutted cat. B&M Shift kit, 100HP shot Nitrous, soon to change over to carburator.

Make sure your needle & seats are clean and not stuck. Make sure your float level is set correctly.
What is you fuel pressure at the carb?

The edlebrock camshaft is junk... FYI

I wouldn't say it's junk but maybe not what he expected. Your're not gonna see much low-end performance out of your system and it sounds like you need some minor carb tuning. Get one of the Edelbrock Tuning kits for your carb P/N and follow its directions and you'll be better.

You got the heads, too, right? Stock heads with that system (cam+intake+big carb) is a bad thing for driveability.

i agree with those 2 the package needs air flow from good heads! the cam might(and does!) need at least a 2,000 rpm stall! and try asking odb about re-tuning a edlebrock carb have to admit he knows his **** about edlebrock carbs!!! ask him he can deliver!!! just email odb and he'll gladly help !!

My heads are 462 casting number camel humps. They have 2.02,1.60 valves, 3 angle valve job, decked, ported polished, redrilled for angled plugs.

Those are good heads so I wouldn't say that's the problem! The cam could definitely change tho'!! Get an extreme energy comp cam! You can get the one with a .477/.480 lift and a 230/236 duration and you can still use the stock converter!! You could use ODB's "suggested" cam but it's just a suggestion and personally I think you'd see better performance out of the cam I listed here!! Don't be fooled by ODB's 1/4 mile times......he has the car gutted for less weight!!

Another thing you might think about is taking out the intank fuel pump and just hooking up a nice mechanical pump! You can leave the intank one in there also if you like.....you'll just hafta unhook the oil pressure switch and get a mechanical guage (because the intank pump coming on and going off is based on the oil pressure switch) ...and also disconnect the fuel pump relay!

------------------
1986 Trans AM
305 TPI
4 Wheel Discs
9 bolt Borg Warner Rear
Completely Stock
Soon to upgrade to a 350 converted from TPI to Carb, Edlebrock Carb, Edlebrock Performer RPM Intake, Headman Shorty Headers, Vortech Heads (possibly ported), comp Xtreme Energy cam, proform HEI distributor kit w/MSD 6-AL Ignition box!!
Current project: Keeping my car running until I get the money for the above mentioned project! :-)

That comment was made before it was "revealed" that you had the car gutted! Took somethin' like 100 posts to finally get that out of you too!!

You gotta tune, man. It's not gonna run like a top out of the box. That cam is ok, just gotta work with your setup.
