Need 87-early 88 convertible top release slide handle
Hi there,
I was able to get my hands on some release system rods so decided to go the original route. I was looking into modding my system to use a newer model cable. However, I now have the rods but the release handle I can't find anywhere. If anyone finds one, I'd appreciate you contact me. Thanks.

Good Luck!! I have tried several aftermarket, discontinued parts places and dealerships for this part. It's inpossible. I was told that we'll have to update the entire tonneau cover and use the 89-up latch assembly.
Here's my broken latch! I have to literally tie down the back of the top so it doesn't flap in the wind when I drive.

Yeah, I know noone makes these but not too long ago, one was available on ebay. I just posted here...just in case
Anyway, don't let anyone tell you there's no way around it. It's not easy and requires some fabrication, but you can use the newer release cable by modifying the actual latch. I have another post where I started doing this, but since I got the rods, I wanted to go factory. Albeit, it'd be much easier to change tonneaus

I've been looking for ages for the slide handle too, as well as the little white pieces that join the rods...do you really have to change the whole tonneau, or just the latch underneath...

That slide handle is no longer available. I've had my car at 2 different convertible shops and they couldn't find anything either. You're best bet is to try junk yards. Or, at worst upgrade to the 89-up tonneau so you can get that latch assembly. The slide handle on these 87-88's sucks. It's a weak piece of plastic!

Doh! Shoulda looked here before posting this question all over the damn place.
Funny, I was thinking doing just what you mentioend above, and upgrading to the 89+ tonneau (sp?). Strangely, I don't even have the slide you guys are talking about in my '88...is this normal? All I have is a damn cotter pin over the roof pin that goes down through the cover. I just got the car 2 weeks ago and I'm currently doing the used car mainenance I always do when I get a new/used car.
Soooo, upgrading to the newer cover is possible, just pricey?
