Engine: 305 TBI & 305 4 BBL & 4.7 liter
Transmission: Auto & Auto & 5 Speed Manual
MVMA Specifications:

CAMARO (1FP87) 2 Door Coupe (LHO & MB1) = 3105 Pounds.

CAMARO (1FP67) 2 Door Convertible (LHO & MB1) = 3220 Pounds.

CAMARO Z28 (1FP87) 2 Door Coupe (LB9 & M39) = 3273 Pounds.

CAMARO Z28 (1FP67) 2 Door Convertible (LB9 & M39) = 3377 #'s.

The convertible weighs more than the coupe (including T-top models).

I think it may have to do with additional underbody bracing, that coupes do not have by virtue of the hardtop tieing the body all together and keeping it rigid.

That would be my educated guesstimate.

From what I've seen there really isn't that much extra bracing. I'd bet it's more in the amount of rigid steel used in the folding top mechanism.

Having just shipped a convertible top and frame assembly from maine to Maryland, I can tell you that the whole "rigid top frame" assembly weighs less than 90 pounds.

On top of that, I am pretty sure that the roof of a coupe plus the hatch and glass weighs more than a convertible top and frame.

It is a proven fact that convertibles have to have additional bracing to tighten the car up, basically to simulate the function that a hard top provides to a coupe. If it didn't have something to stiffen it up, it would shake and shimmy and rattle all over the place.

Sometimes if you cannot see something, it does not mean that it is not there.

drrrr.... I never said that there wasn't bracing at all. The bracing I've seen doesn't seem to amount to those weight differences. From those figures they're at least 100 lbs more than regular coupes. I've seen all the bracing there is to see. Down the pinch welds, extra framework up the b-pillar and even sanwiching the lower fenderwheels near the front. They must've used to some heavyass metal to amount to the weight of the hatch glass, top sheetmetal and then some.

Gig Harbor, Washington?

Okay. No argument here. I just quoted the book for the vehicle weights.....from my "restoration package" from GM.

You live in Gig Harbor? I used to live in Olympia, Silverdale and Bremerton. I love Washington.

I guess I've started to argue the same thing you said. oh well, hehe.

Ah, fellow Washintonian. Nice area, little too much rain for my vert though. I want to drive w/o the top everyday!
