Please help me....

I get back from vacation and find that my car had been broken into. Someone lifted the back bow until the latch broke. Anyone know what I need to do to fix the cylinder that the back bow locks into? It is completely hollow so the back of the top wont latch down. Can it be easily replaced or do i need to try to put it back together?

Thanks to anyone who can offer some insight!

Nick

If you're talking about the piece of tube where the rear of the top locks into the tonneau cover, that tube has a slot (on the underside of the tonneau cover) with a lock pin in it. When you pull on the cable (driver side above rear speaker) to release the rear of the top, this cable opens the pin and that allows the top to be released.

If I understand correctly, you might be missing the pin.

This is what I'm talking about:

If you're missing just the pin, you can sure find it at a local hardware store. If it's more serious (like the actuating arm is broken or missing), it'll take some effort to get it to work again.

Hope this helps.

THANK YOU SO MUCH. I found the pin lyind behint the seats. So the pin is the only piece that goes in the tube? If so that is a huge relief.

Glad to help out a fellow third genner!

If you still have some problems with it (won't open etc), let us know. In that case, a pic would help so that we can see the damage.

My poorly choosen 1st Deville, last winter, had only one key, so on a trip to North Minneapolis, I had to park in the Industrial area and leave my doors unlocked. I returned to find the seats lifted and items moved but NOT taken. To this day, very baffling. I had real nice speakers sitting on the decklid as they were too big to mount. Very odd stuff

Nothing was stolen, but there wasnt anyting in it anyway. But the top is coming off the back bow, probably where they pulled up from. Its really bugging me because the rear window is rippled due to the lack of tension. Now I need to take it back to the upholstery shop to fix it when i get time. Who knows how much that will cost

Since I'll be starting with the rear bow (5)'s glue, ask about what they use and post the charge.
Mine was always starting to come off the bow, supposedly from shrinking, since owning. The original rear window crack allowed me to get a long stick in to push... oh, Maybe I should refrain from mention

Anyway, With my new top, the window is mint, and hope to leave it scratch free, this means more then a quick shovel or brush to remove snow, leaves, etc.... will be fun
