Bad news about Hawks repo weatherstriping...

Just called them to see if they could give me an estimate on when they will be ready for sale. He said they are confident they will be for sale sometime this YEAR! I was hoping they would be ready this month. It turns out they are getting a sample of each one in this month. The final product will not be ready for sale till mid summer(hopefully.)

Bummer.

I wonder if this means I should delay my top replacement?

Like everyone else, I can't wait for this to come out -- keeping my eyes on it. Tired of getting wet when the rain blows sideways into the little openings under the top.

LOL -- luckily I have other vehicles to chose from, wouldn't want to drive any of my babies out in bad weather. Had the purple beast out yesterday just to keep her in good shape and it started snowing on the way home. I don't worry about me driving in the bad weather -- it's the other driver's that scare me.

Hawks, I hope you read this stuff -- we're waiting!

Weatherstripping GROUP BUY?

Has anybody considered talking with Hawks about a discounted group buy for 3rd gen vert weatherstripping?

Does anybody on this page have a real good relationship with them? Good enough to ask about a group buy?

Dang. I was hoping to order mine this month as im just now getting ready to buy my new top. I dont see how I could pay someone to replace the top, and then go back 6 to 8 months later to repalce the weather stripping, it seems such a shame to do that. At this rate, im going to only have enough money to get the back bow weather strip done. UGH! what to do what to do.

Something to look into.

Here is another way to attack this problem - maybe.

Our tops are almost identical to the Corvette tops of the same vintage with the addition of an extra bow... Could it be that the weatherstripping for the Vette vert would fit on a 3rd gen? The Cavalier vert also shared that design...

I don't need stripping right now, and I really don't have the time but somebody might look into this and we might get lucky!

We would be so lucky for that other weather striping to fit our cars. I'm pretty sure that if this worked we would have read about it a while ago here.

Yeah,
Well, we had to wait until AD 1492 before somebody seriously tested the idea that the world was flat!

IT's certainly worth a look to see if the Weatherstripping on the Corvette and Cavalier verts will fit on our cars...

I don't have the time and am not currently in need so I won't be making that voyage but somebody who needs this stuff just might get lucky!

the stuff i need is around the windows and since our windows are much longer than cavaliers and vette's i doubt it'll work, but it's worth a try i guess

soft seal should be almost ready for theirs. I talked to them a couple months ago and they were starting their molds. I will try and get ahold of them this week and also talk to Bruce at hawks about a group buy and try to get a realistic date it will be available. hard telling though because of cost compared to quality Bruce and Roy at f-body MS pride theirself on quality parts but cost has to be there too. I will check though.

I dont really mind paying for quality, as long as its reasonable. I know how much the stuff is going for now, (roughly 145.00 for tonneau bow and 150.00 per side window) and I friggin think thats rediculus. Its frickin rubber people.. not gold plate.. I realize that there is costs involved with making a product and r&d and all, but sheesh.

Hawks I trust. my neighbor has had a lot of work done to his 4th Gen SS and swears by them. I dont think thats a problem with anyone on here either. Its just the waiting game now.

Hell ive had to mop up about 4 inches of water out of the back seat floor board on my drivers side cause my stripping is shot.
If Hawks, Fbod, SoftSeal, Someone, can get this stuff reproed at a reasonable price it would pay off for them in sheer quantity. I mean hell, look here, weve got like 17 people wanting it.. its crazy, but true.

Thanks for reading my venting! It was in no way an attack on anyone so if anyone takes it that way please dont!

Do you have pricing on the other pieces. Are you taking pre-orders?

I could be in for a GP if the pricing is decent. Mine stripping is decent, but leaks at the upper rear corners running down the highway. I'd be in for drivers' and passengers' top and rear piece around the window, probably the front one around the window too.(I think that's the "header sill")
