Seatbelts!

What to do for seatbelts. I can't find a good factory set anywhere. And I saw a picture of forth gen vert seatbelts. And theres no way those will fit. I think I am just going to go with these. 3" lap belts. I think that will work. What other options is there? Adam :-)

Interesting. I need belts too and am frustrated wit hthe options especially in my color. Where are you seeing those? Are they listed as a replacement for ours? What kind of costs are you looking at?

If you're looking for stock replacements, try ebay. Seems like someone's always parting out a vert.

Try "unclefrank@aol.com" this guy has well over 50 camaros he's parting out.
Seems like a real honest guy also. Just ordered some parts from him. If you work with him be patient sometimes it may take him a few days. Rick

It's not a replacement type belt. It's a 3" lapbelt for race cars. But it will bolt into the car. But you will have no over the shoulder belt. Adam :-)

Buddy of mine turned me on to this solution.....a seat belt rebuild kit.

It costs about $17 and you can order at www.moderndaymuscle.com This is a great fix for those sun faded buttons, especially in a convertible. Makes your seat belts look new...and it's inexpensive

Re: Seatbelts!

What belts are compatible with a 1991 Convertible? I am restoring my vert to all black, new carpet, leather seats, et al. My problem is with seat belts. I have 4th gen seat belts from a 2000 Camaro SS Convertible and I have them from a 2002 Trans-Am hard top.

I saw the tech article about 4th gen to third gen belts but nobody ever answers the convertible question...are our seat belts different? I would assume so. Anyone put 4th gen vert seat belts or others in their 3rd gen vert? Also, the tech article mentions a gaping hole that doesn't get covered...I am assuming this is the hole in the door sill. Anyone figure out how to cover that?

Also, will 3rd gen hard top belts work in our 3rd gen verts? I know there are a lot of seatbelt posts but none answer or give a "compatability matrix" of options.

Thanks for you help!

I bought those. I'm just not real happy with them but I needed something to replace my gray ones. Doing the Hot Rod Power Tour first week of June and changing all interior over to black...I just can't find any good black seat belts.

Hawks didn't have any and neither did Zues Performance. It is like a frigg'in wasteland for good looking black belts that fit in a 3rd gen vert.

I have two sets of 4th gen's in black but they don't fit right. I bought 4th gen camaro and t/a seats and each set came with belts.

Re: Seatbelts!

You can still get the buttons through the DEALER, they were only $2.00 last year for the set of 4. ModernDaymuscle in this case is overpriced... Although if you don't want to go through the hassle, they might be a good option as I have done business with them and been happy.

You need to read through the recall on the buttons for our cars to get the proper kit number...

The only problem I have is getting the originals apart to replace the inards... maybe thats why ModernDayMuscle is more they might come with the tools.

Re: Seatbelts!

I just purchased some NEW ones from GM last summer, I was able to get them in GRAY. but the ones I got were for 1992's, they appear the same as the 1991 & earlier but they apparently have been revised as there was not a recall on them...

Thanks for the tip! I just ordered new front black belts for 1992 camaro convertible from my local dealer. $114.47 for each front retractor (~$230 for both) and will be here by Friday! I don't need the receivers but they had them for ~$70 each...ouch! They didn't have any belts for 1991 but they had the 1992 ones. The 1992 rears won't work because they changed them that year.

I am still looking for 1991 camaro black rear seatbelts with the shoulder pull-down that comes out of the convertible tonneau cover. Thanks again for the tip!!

The RECIEVER part is the same as the Hard top cars, the belt is different, I accidently ordered a belt for a hard top instead of the reciever...

Re: Seatbelts!

From 1989-1991 the rear seat belts had a seperate shoulder harness clip that went into the reciever. I believe in 1992 they changed it so the belt was 1 piece... I think its similar to the 4th gens... not sure though... Its been 10 years since I owned my 95 Formula vert.

Re: Seatbelts!

Relieved to see this post up. I am doing the same thing to the interior of my 89 vert. Going from all tan interior to black, and finding seat belts in respectable condition has been more than easy. Just have a few ?s. The new belts that were bought from the dealer are front belts correct? Do the convertible front belts differ from t-top belts? I had read a post a while back that said they were the same belts just flipped over? In any case, glad to hear that GM still stocks them in black. Was about 2 days from pulling a pair at the local yard from a t-top car. Getting them new will be great.

So can you order the front receiver belts from the dealer and will they fit a 91 vert? All I need are the front receivers.

Re: Seatbelts!

Yes they should fit. The recievers from 84 - 92 were basically the same, From 84 - 91 there was a recall but the issue was apparently corrected for 1992. The 84-91 belts plug into the 92 recievers...

Re: Seatbelts!

Is there a specific part number for the black front vert belts? I have called a dealer around me and they have told me that the belts are discontinued. Perhaps I had asked for 89 belts and not 92 belts. I am very interested in getting 2 black front retractors for driver and passenger. Could you guys who have recently gotten the belts new let me know what I have to do to track these down.

Re: Seatbelts!

I know a place that can restore them to new condition but it cost about the same as getting new ones. But the good thing is the webbing is replaced and the plastic is also redyed. This is good for the guys like me that don't want to change out the whole interior to a different color. I think for the entire set (2 front 2 rear) I am fairly certain it was $350-400 range I could be off but that should be close.

Re: Seatbelts!

I have an 87 convertible with carmine red interior. I just picked up a set of set of front and back buckles. I need new retractors for the fronts because they do not retract. My belts are also a little discolored and I would like to replace them. Anyone know where I can get a new set of carmine red belts and retractors

Hey jstolz,

Could you post the name of this place you are speaking of or PM me the name? I'm hoping to finally begin the restoration of my IROC this upcoming fall and need to get my sources in a row.

Thanks in advance.
