91 Camaro Convt springs

What is the best way to lower my suspension about 1". I see Tenzo springs but I also see that most of them say not for Convertible. What is the Diff? Or am I reading this wrong? Any help would be appreciated.

Re: 91 Camaro Convt springs

I found they all say not for convertibles, and I went through this in here a year or so ago. Seems it is a weight difference and the drop will be different than what the manufacturer advertises. My memory says there are no appreciable differences in the mounting or installation. Again, I believe the weight is displaced differently on the verts and that is why the "not for convertibles" statement.

I'll see if I can find the old thread.

Re: 91 Camaro Convt springs

the rear inner fenders on the convertibles are not rounded on the tops like the coupes, they are cut off and flattened for the top to fit. reducing the clearence between the tire and the top of the fender well. i had a big drop on my 91 vert and it bottomed out all the time. no big deal for me but thats the difference. you can use any spring but the lower you go, the closer you'll get to rubbing.

Re: 91 Camaro Convt springs

I've had no issues using Eibachs Pro-kit on my 88 vert or my sisters 91 vert

Thats only a 1" drop or so, plus it helps to use a quality shock/strut combo

Re: 91 Camaro Convt springs

I had no problems using a 1.5" Tokico lowering spring on my vert.

Re: 91 Camaro Convt springs

any spring will work as long as you dont try to lower it to the ground. good shocks and struts will also help greatly. i had a 2" drop in mine and i rubbed with my 16's and 20's between 1-1.5 should be fine.

Re: 91 Camaro Convt springs

I have dropzones, sportlines, and intrax installed. Intrax is the roughest ride, but well worth the stance that it gives.

thats what we thought about my buddys prokits, turns out he didnt install them into the spring pockets correct. he went over a bump, heard a thump and his car became lower.

try that first.

I did the same thing when I installed my springs. I didnt put the bottom of the coil against the stopblock on my A-arms and it sat way too high at first. After I figured that out the car sat exactly how I wanted it.

Re: 91 Camaro Convt springs

Easiest way is to cut 1/2" or less off your stock springs.

People might give you the "hack" job routine, but I've done it on two 3rd gens before, and took both of them to autocross afterwards, will no ill effects.

Re: 91 Camaro Convt springs

You are going on assumption, obviously, not experience.

I've done it twice, on my own cars, and will continue to do it in the future, on my own cars.

If it rode that bad, would it even remotely be an autocross car?

Re: 91 Camaro Convt springs

I put on lowering springs, they were about three inches lower than stock springs, but much thicker. My car now actually sits about an inch higher than stock. Really weird. I am going to cut my stock ones and put them back on. Maybe the verts are just lighter, not sure.

That's because your stock pretty were obviously worn out and weak, "lowering" the car. What is your center of fender, bottom edge of lip to ground measurement? Mine, on good WS6 springs, were 26" front, 27" rear. Mine's not a 'vert, but the #s will give you a reference point, of my 3400 lb well optioned GTA.

Take your lowering springs off, cut a coil off all 4 springs, coil & a quarter, MAYBE a coil & a half (up front), then put them back on.

Re: 91 Camaro Convt springs

Just installed Eibach front and rear. No problems and it lowered a good inch. Also installed KYB shocks and struts. Very good.
