1992 convertible z28

I am 17 years old and have always been a fan of third gen camaros. My dad has had a lot of them back in his day and I just grew more and more attracted to them. I now own a 1992 25th anniversary convertible z28. It is all black, black top, black paint, and black and grey interior. It has the TPI 305, automatic, and the whole car only has 71,000 original miles. The car is in very good condition, convertible top, interior and everything. I was just wondering if someone on here that knows a little more about the 3rd gens than I do could tell me a little about the production numbers of my car. Is it very rare? I have noticed you dont see to many of them, especially in good conditon.

Re: 1992 convertible z28

Well, out of a total of 70,007 Camaro built in '92, only 1254 were Z28 convertibles. It is a fairly rare and very nice ride.

Here's a great source of general '92 Camaro information . . .
https://www.thirdgen.org/1992-chevy-camaro

Percentage of options built . . .
http://www.camarosource.ca/php/camar...info_2&bmid=29

'92 RPO build production numbers . . .
http://www.chevy-camaro.com/chevy-ca....asp?year=1992

Now if your looking for how many were made just like yours, you're a little out of luck. While we may now how many Camaros had AC or power windows or limited slip or were convertibles, we can't tell you how many were made in that combination. There is no 3rd gen Camaro option cross-referencing database that we know of in existance.

Re: 1992 convertible z28

Man, I couldn't imagine having a 3rd gen vert at 17! But then again, they were brand new when I was 17 (I'm an old 37 today )!
Have a lot of fun and care for this ride. If you can hold on to it as you get older, it will truly be a special ride. When you get to be my age, that car will be a sweet 35 years old! A very nice ride to have and definitly will be a very rare car.

Others here offer lot's a great info. Hang-on for more replys.

Re: 1992 convertible z28

17 SEVENTEEN. When I was 17 I was driving a beater 70 Nova with a straight 6 that you needed to put a screwdriver in the ace carb to get the thing to start.( remember the old manual choke cable you could buy to fix it)
I use to have to put a cat litter box under the oil pan so my dad didn't yell at me again for getting oil on HIS driveway.

At 17 I would have killed to have a Camaro

Re: 1992 convertible z28

Yeah I consider myself pretty lucky to own a car like this. I know its nothing super expensive or anything but I take great pride in it and I love the car. I have people all the time yell things at me like " tell daddy thanks " or " give daddy his car back " and stuff like that. And I just try to take it as a compliment. Every once and a while you'll have the occasional camaro fan who compliments me on it and I usually just say something like " thanks man " or " yes I'm pretty lucky to have a car like this " . I try not to be that teenage kid all the adults and other kids talk about that has a nice car, treats it like crap, shows off all the time, and is a jerk. I don't like people like that so I do everything I can to not be that person. I would rather be known as the kid who has the nice third gen he takes care of and be respected rather than hated.

Great car and great attitude to go with it..
I too was at 17 driving a horizon TC3 (like the front drive charger by chrysler) I would have killed to have a camaro. Keep it nice.

Re: 1992 convertible z28

Same here in rural Alberta. For every 100 trucks, you might see one muscle/sports car!
In fact, it's surprising how many guys are dropping their trucks and adding modified suspensions and ground effects to make their trucks look low and handle like cars!
My old stock Camaro can out-handle practically all these modded trucks.
Now, I like trucks and if I want a box or go offroad, I'll buy one. But if I want a car, I think I'll buy a car. To each their one.

Re: 1992 convertible z28

Sounds like you have a nice car there. My first car at 16 was my 92 Camaro and I bought it with 61k on the ticker 4 years ago. Everyone always compliments me with how clean it is. I couldn't imagine having a 92 vert. for the first car. Just take care of it, which it seems like you will. BTW, you really NEED to post some pics.

Re: 1992 convertible z28

haha .. what a coincidence .. im 17 and just got my hands on a 1991 Camaro Z28 Convertible .. it has the 305 tpi and the 5 speed tranny ..

omg .. i love this car .. ive had 9 cars now and this is by far the best .. and i bought it for $1500 .. this complete dumba$$ traded me for a bagged truck i bought from a friend ..

the previous owner said he rebuilt the motor 35000 miles ago .. and the clutch and tranny feel perfect ..

wont be getting rid of this one anytime soon ..

itll be getting some fresh paint, interior, and maybe a supercharger as soon as i save up some $$ from work ..

Woot! Add another one to the teenager convertible club. I got my car when I was 16 (I'm almost 21 now). Try and find a piece of crap for $1000 to drive to school, the idiots in high school don't care if they park in between the lines or ON the lines, and you WILL get door dings if you drive to school.

Post some pictures of that car, I always love seeing a nice convertible 3rd gen.

To post a pic it needs a web based address (a URL) link. We can't see what's on your hard drive.
You probably wouldn't want us to either!

60ft. - 2.0
1/8th - 9.3
1000ft. - 12.1

Last edited by JustA305; 11-19-2007 at 02:00 PM. Reason: I had my times messed up. It said 100ft. instead of 1000ft. sorry

Not bad not bad. I think last time I went to the track I ran a 15.1 or 15.2 and I can't remember my 60ft. Mine's an auto also and basically stock except for cheap (or free) mods. The only major thing is an aftermarket muffler and a 3.42 LS1 10bolt.

What part of Arkansas are you from? My girlfriend grew up in Marrion (or Marion?)

Hey Justa305 --- I'm in Arkansas too. I live in Conway. Where do you race? I've been to Bee Branch and Centerville. Not many tracks around here -- especially 1/4 mile -- mostly 1/8 mile tracks.

Yeah there isnt any 1/4 mile tracks around here. Just 1/8th and 1000 ft. tracks. Thats what I ment to say up there in my times. That was a 12.1 in the 1000 ft. not the 100 ft. lol. I live in Bryant. Back when Barton was open which was at the State Fair Grounds in little rock I went up there all the time. That was only 15-20 minutes away. The only thing bad about it was that it was only a 1/8th mile and it was shaped like a bowl and had a big dip in the middle of it so all the bikes were wrecking and they closed it. So now I either go to centerville or prescott. I havent been to Bee Branch yet. How is it? Do you like it? And what are your times?

Re: 1992 convertible z28

got some pics on www.myspace.com/adriansxbox360 ..

my speedo and tach havent worked since i got it and i got a new speed sensor / checked all the wires .. nothing

gave up and took it to the dealer today .. "your gauge cluster is bad .. but we can send it away for 7 days and get it FIXED (not new) .. for the dandy price of $610"

i basically told them to go fu%^ themselves in a nice way and ended up ordering a nice nordskog digital dash .. called nordskog and they only make them once or twice a year (b/c of low demand) .. and the next shipment will be mid december .. so i preordered it and come new years ill have me a shiny new digital dash .. cost me $450 + $12 shipping .. and it has red led's for the backlight ..

ill let yall know how it turns out .. oh it also said itll tell me my 0 to 60 and 1/4 mile time ..

so once i get some money from work this car is goin black w/ red pearl or metal flake .. and alot of clear .. and a black leather interior w/ red stitching .. and a cowl induction fiberglass hood .. idk about racing stripes yet ..

48 now, I had a 67 rs conv when I was 17. My mom sold it for me while I was in college in 1980 for $600. It was rotting in her carport. I saw the car about 10 years later, and it was magnificent. the conv's are going up as I write. buy low sell higher

I have a '92 Vert, Black, 5-speed. I'm 50, bought the car in '95, probably been one of the best cars I have ever owned. It does everything right, sounds good and to me the styling is still fresh.
