...the rods that support the cover when open. I'm trying to bring an 88 vert back to life. The previous owner disassembled the car for paint and did nothing afterwards. Half the parts were lost. I have everything to get the tonneau cover to bolt up. Problem is when everything is bolted up, there is no tension. The rods are loose...

 

Here you go - from a 1988 IROC - just took them and from the looks of it, I'm going to have to was and wax the underside.

 

Do you mean the 2 tonneau cover support arms?

Or the tension arms underneath that act like springs?
That's the best pic of mine that I have right now.

 

I have the same tension rods as topless, rod release like gator. Had a heck of a time finding a replacement release for the rod system for my 88. Finally got one after about 6 months of looking. Anyone know where you can find the plastic connectors that the rods are connected with? Mine seem ok now, but a couple spares wouldn't hurt.

My car is covered and in winter storage in my garage. With the weather getting more Spring like (above freezing), I'll try to get into the back of the car and take a few more pics. Might be in a day or two.

Here are some pics I just took. My car is still in winter storage so the pics aren't the greatest. I had to shoot them in the dark (trying to guess where the camera was pointed) from the back seat. The car is backed against a wall and the battery is still out, so trunk side shots were impossible.
