my friend just bought a 88 or 89 yellow iroc vert. im hoping to find out if its an original yellow vert. also any way to know the gears? cant find rpo codes in glove box. it has drum brakes. american car.

It is to my understanding that yellow was only for 1985-1987. I don't have a vin decoder to tell you exactly what year that is, someone here can tell you though. The 8th digit is "F" which means 305TPI.

The 10th digit in the vin is year, its J so that means 1988.

Interesting car, according to https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/hist...ever-make.html this link they made yellow in 1988, but only on a sport coupe.

VIN comes back as 1988 of course, but yellow was ONLY on the Irocs from 85-87 unless you got a sport coupe.

My guess is someone painted that car yellow. Have under hood pictures? Also on the door it should have stickers with the color code on it

ya strange under the hood is black.
ok great on the drivers door there should be a colour code? ill try to figure that out.

very cool,i know of an 87 yellow 5 speed IROC T-Top with less then 12,000 miles on it that just sits in a garage not too far from me.
guy gets it out about once a year takes it around the block and back in the garage it goes.

he has owned it since new.

The paint code should be two letters then four numbers. For example my paint code is WA 9591. Hope this helps.

The RPO is 51U for the Yellow in 1986-1988 WA is 8929

Also, the car has the TPI 305. No 350 in a factory vert.

dont care if its real or not, that is one good looking roc. i would drop a pretty penny to own that car, any better pics?

I don't really get that either, cars are meant to be driven. If you take care of it, you can drive it 200,000 miles and then restore it if it's so damn special.

But some people get thier enjoyment out of just looking at thier car and talking about it.

Love the IROC convertible.

From reading the thread I'm pretty sure it's not originally yellow, it was black.

You would likely do better with a good mech condition vert that needs paint and painting it yellow.

Not a vert but I bought a factory yellow IROC that had roasted in the sun for 30 years. Wanted to keep her yellow but that old factory yellow was boring and drab. This past summer I painted mine 2010 Camaro Rally Yellow and it's HOT! Working on the interior now and should be ready for the road by spring...
