I had an '88 IROC and did the top, turned out nice. Did it in the winter in my garage, took a few weeks as I was not in a rush.

I now have this '90 IROC and need to get the top so I can do the same thing in the upcoming months.

I checked out the stickies, eBay, and some online places like TopsOnline.

I am leaning towards the ones on TopsOnline with the glass window.

When I ordered the one for my '88, I had to measure the distance from one edge to the other as the guy I ordered from told me there were two different manufacturers of frames. Is this just for '88's or all convertibles?

Also, anyone run across any other good places to get the tops?

Re: '90 IROC Convetible Top Replacement
The ASC conversion tops/frames were made in two different sizes depending on
year. Someone will chime in with the details.

I see you have a 69 Pace car, is it a DZ 302?

Re: '90 IROC Convetible Top Replacement
'69 Pace Cars were built on the SS platform, not the Z-28, so no, not a DZ-302. 350 CI, 300HP motor.

I recently sold the Z-11 optioned car (convertible), but still have the Z-10 (hardtop version).

Anyone else put the glass windows in? Your feedback on the size of them?

Re: '90 IROC Convetible Top Replacement
I've heard that some of the glass windows are very small compared to the factory plastic rear windows?

Amyone do the glass? Who did you get it from? How was the size of it compared to the factory plastic?

I think topsonline.com has instructions for measuring to ensure you get the correct top. I didn't measure mine though, I just ordered it straight off the website based on the year of my car and they got it right.

Just had my tops on line glass window installed and am very happy with it. The glass is so much better than the plastic

Re: '90 IROC Convetible Top Replacement
Just got my car again after having it installed. I ordered the Stayfast cloth with the real back glass. It looks great! The glass window is smaller and I know the visibility is affected, I will have to be more diligent when looking back.
My old top was in great shape but the back plastic window just got not only weathered in the Colorado Springs sun but the hail really beat things up where cracks turned into holes and me having to some garage fixes with tape to make a couple more years. This new top should easily last 10 years or more if I take of it. It did cost me about $100 more to buy but I am happy with being able see out of a clear glass rather then a wavy plastic window...

That's who I am probably going to order mine from.

Was the glass smaller than the plastic window? If so, how much? Very noticeable?

Re: '90 IROC Convetible Top Replacement
The glass is smaller...it only measures 10.5 high X 35.5 wide but it does look very good and looking through a clear window rather than a wavy one makes a huge difference. I drove my car on a 900 mile trip through rain and snow a couple of weeks ago and I had no problem with the smaller window and could wipe the snow/sleet off without the fear of cracking etc...
I had replaced the top six years ago and the overall top held up well and the black cloth top did not fade, it was the plastic window that deteriorated then eventually dulled and cracked. My Iroc is still a daily driver and 'lives' outside in the four seasons of Colorado. In the next couple of years I will be painting it and replacing the interior and will eventually become a garage queen with many other classics I own. In my estimation having the glass will be better in the long run and ten years from now I will still be able to see out the back window!

Here are some pics of my 88 IROC a few weeks after having a new soft top with real glass installed. You will notice the real glass window is smaller than the plastic window and I also included a profile pic.

It looks really good, and here in FL I can tint an actual glass window. Your car is in great shape for being a DD left outside in all four seasons, thanks for the pic when I am ready that will be the top I order.

Re: '90 IROC Convetible Top Replacement
I am the third owner of my 88 IROC. I bought it from my brother for $900 bucks seven years ago (it had a spun bearing) and had been sitting for quite a few years in his backyard. Though 3rdgens were not high on my desire list the convertibles always looked better to me than the coupes.
I own many classics... I restored a 65 Mustang (nearly twenty two year old restoration) that I have owned for nearly 39 years, a nearly finished 66 Mustang GT that I have owned since 93, a 58 Chevy Biscayne (building it into a street rod) that has been in the family since new and I drove a bit back in HS in the early seventies, a 66 F-100 Pickup truck that I bought from the original owner back in 95-(I restored it as well) and like I said the IROC is a daily driver and lives outside. By the way my wife and I have other daily drivers-A Dodge Durango and a Chrysler PT Cruiser... I do believe I am spoiled

Re: '90 IROC Convetible Top Replacement
Got it from Topsonline and it is a Stayfast canvas top with real glass.
I happen to be on an extended trip to Phoenix and one of my brother in-laws own North Valley Upholstery and he installed it. Sure was convenient and he installed it faster I could have.
When I lower the top I always have the rear seats down (as the manual recommends), I also place a towel over the window and 'help' fold the top into the well.

On the Tops Online website for their product, they show this diagram to measure for their tops:

Re: '90 IROC Convetible Top Replacement
Got my top a couple of days ago from TopOnline. Got the package deal they have up on eBay, black stayfast top, glass window, cables, and pads for $519 shipped.

Opened up box, placed top on the over the existing one, looks like a perfect fit (wanted to verify before I took the old one off).

Going to get started this weekend, in no rush, will take pictures and post here when done.

Re: '90 IROC Convetible Top Replacement
I just got a top from Topsonline via ebay. Are these measurements nessory? All I told them was the year and the fact its a RS they didn't ask for a measurement. Am I just gambleing? How do I check befor I pull the old top off. This is my daily driver I can't be down for weeks while they get it rite.

See the post in this thread earlire for what to measure.

Also, this is for pre '90 years. From '90-'92 the tops are all the same measurement.

What year is your car?

Re: '90 IROC Convetible Top Replacement
Yes having the measurement is necessary for pre-90 Third Gens. Also you can check on youtube under 'thirdgen convertible top installation' and you will find a pretty darn good video that you will find helpful for installing your new top.
Good Luck!

Re: '90 IROC Convetible Top Replacement
Allright, got my top from TopsOnline, got it installed over the last 2 weekends, this is the 2nd 3rd gen I have done. Turned out pretty good.

Went with the glass rear window.

Got a few issues as usual mainly due to the sides not being real taught enough, but I think everyone has that issue. It is not bad just not taught like the rest of the top. Weight of the glass back window makes the back not quite as taught as with the plastic, but not bad, just me being picky!

I got a full set of seals from Rick's Camaro. Got a question about the rear seal. The rear seal is a SoftSeal, not sure what brand the window seals are?

The ends of the rear seal have little metal tabs on them. The other seals I have installed did not have these and there is no "OBVIOUS" place to secure these.

Any idea on where these get secured?

Re: '90 IROC Convetible Top Replacement
You will find some schematics at the beginning of the convertible forum. You will find where those metal tabs attach to in those schematics, that is where I found out where to not only attach those tabs but how to tighten up areas of my top. Those tabs attach to the back side of the rail assembly. There is a hole on each rail assembly for a screw to attach the tab.
Make sure that before you glue in the rear seal that you test fit it first and attach those metal tabs before you glue in the rear seal.

Re: '90 IROC Convetible Top Replacement
Thanks for the info, missed those in the spec sheets.

I have not glued my new seals in place yet, learned many years ago to test fit them, even letting them sit in place for a few days before finishing up with the glue.

The glass is nice! Tried puting the top down and all seems to work pretty good.

I advise anyone doing thoer top to go with the glass instead of the plastic rear window.

Well worth the $$$.

Re: '90 IROC Convetible Top Replacement
Glad things are working out. I did tighten up some of the cables which made my top a bit more taut and removed the waves/wrinkles. My top is still so tight that once I put it up I must virtually slam down the back end of the top to ensure the latch pin gets seated into the latch assembly. From past experience I know the top still has a bit of stretching to do and summer/warm weather will help with that.
