Took the plasma cutter and blew out a few quick squares with 4 holes to help give the epoxy something to hold on to. Tack welded 1/4" X 2" long bolts to the plates on one side so i can bent the bolts to match the slope of the spoiler. I will let yall know how it works.
Re: Possible fix for broken spoiler mounting studs
I know this is a year old post.
Nice work.
Do some wings have 5? Or are you adding one? My wing was pulling away, I removed it, 2 studs were stripped with cracked up bases, one base was completely detached, and one stud/nut was actually still working But I had 4 on mine. 1989 Iroc.
I have it 3M taped on right now.
How did this work out? I'm about to try something similar. I really need to learn how to weld.
I was thinking of laying in a 4" X 6" square of fiberglass with a stainless stud poking thru the middle. This should be stronger than the plastic wing, and if I rough up the wing real good it should stick forever. Is this a bad idea?
Re: Possible fix for broken spoiler mounting studs
I've been told by a body shop that the urethane windshield adhesive is strong enough to remount the spoiler. Getting it positioned correctly and avoiding squeeze out might be an issue. In any case, the urethane windshield adhesive works great for mounting hood louvers that don't have any studs left.
