Removing my AC?

What do i do to remove it? do i just take it out or will i have to adjust the belt tensioner, or even get a new belt? Help me out here, i really wanna get rid of the AC, for engine bay room and for weight reduction, and for hp reasons, and I already have all the air i'll need(t-tops)

mine was $45, at my local dealer.

Punch in the # at www.gmpartsdirect.com

it really cleaned up the engine bay, and I also removed the smog pump and air tubes.

I can not change the plugs from the top of my motor.

bluegrassz?

Do you mean that you can now change the spark plugs from the top? no?

Have you ever purchased from gmpartsdirect? Do you know if they accept credit cards? they ship internationally?

Thanks

Yes, I can get to the spark plugs from the top. I even have big arms. And yes it has the stock exhaust manifolds, with out the air tubes now.

I have not bought parts from them, but many guys on the board have. In not sure if they ship internationally or not. You could e-mail them to find out.

I also removed the smog pump. I ended up getting a shorter belt.

It sure beats having to jack the car up and crawl under it to change the plugs.

P.S. I removed the complete a/c system. drier, hoses, compressor, all of it.

Well wen I removed my evaporator I noticed it was preatty damaged from road debris (lots of fins where flat, they dont let the air pass throught) and im thinking now that my griffen delicate fins will end up looking like that. Do you know of anything one can put in our cars to protect radiators when an evaporator is not pressent?

I saw mentioned somewhere in this site something like a mesh, but have looked at all kind of pictures & drawings of our cars and I havent found anything like that in front of the radiator or evaporator (If it is stock my car dont have it, must be that the previous owner remove it).

Thanks.

I will e-mail those GM people to see what I can do to purchase the AC delete.

You could go to Lowes or home depot or something like that and get a wire mesh. Kind of like the APC grills that go in the imports.

Not the same, but looks kinda like it. Then cut it to fit and attach with the plastic wire ties. This should help with small rocks. Just put it in place of the condensor.

let us know how it works out.

later

Hey Justin, (no_car_yet), come out to our next f-body meet on Sunday and I will give you the part number for the belt that I used. I got rid of my a/c and pollution crap over the winter. I went to Brownes Auto Supplies here in town and got a belt made by DAYCO, it fits perfectly!!
