weird overheating issue

My car overheated last night for the first time and it was kinda weird. I went out for a drive just because it was nice outside and I had to go down the street to get some crack ( ) . The car ran fine, heated up to 200 then dropped to 180 and stayed there. Then all of a sudden the temp just started to rise and it was getting close to 260* just as I pulled into the driveway. The fans were on and the radiatior is full. Brand new water pump too. What made it just spike up all of a sudden like that?

It only seems to do it if I drive the car 'hard'. If I get into the throttle any more than Grandma would it seems to get the temp up. Maybe a fuel mixture problem?

Check your timing, how the car running. If the timing is off then you're getting too much timing at WOT and that can cause sudden overheating.

Or a bad head gasket...

It's not if I blip the throttle. It's if I drive it hard, put more load on it for a few minutes of so, the temp slowly rises. Once I park the car and let it idle it slowly drops to normal.

Tony,

Check out the timing, it makes a world of difference.

BTW, sorry I didn't make it out last weekend, I am just getting back from vacation tonight. (BFE, upstate NY)
