do flex fans make a difference?
ive tried searching and i just cant come up with an answer. the manufacturer says that they make a difference, and i would think they do but it would be nice to find out for sure from someone who has tried it. im thinking it would be under the same principle as the lightened pulleys, have less moving mass to produce more HP, but like i said it would be nice to hear from someone who has tried it. also if anyone has any suggestions that would be cool too.
oh and how big is the fan on my LG4?
what does everyone think about this fan?

would i be better off with that one or an actual metal flex fan?
thanks

well i think if i got that nylon fan and got rid of the AIR pump it would give me a couple extra ponies from removing all that extra weight from turning on the belts, does my thinking sound logical?

Ive seen a few cars withe the flex fan, ppl always boast about how cool it sounds ... and im sure ive read somewhere it robbed the engine of power.
I doubt it offers any advantages over a serpentine setup ..

phantom do a full exhaust headers back that should let the engine breathe alot better and get a open element over the single snorkle

well exhaust is on my list, it will consist of full length headers and then header mufflers and then turndowns, so it will have very little back pressure. for the open element, do you think i should get a 9" or a 14" open element?

well it says on the description of the nylon fans they are good up to 8000 rpm and you have to use a fan spacer or it voids their waranty, im willing to bet on the video the car it was on the engine was running more than 8 grand or installed it wrong, but who knows, but that would be kinda scary! good thing it nylon and probably wouldnt shoot through the hood if it did that while goin down the road
does anyone know the diameter of the stock fan?

14 inches round would be better you could ask a few buddies or head to junkyard and get one real cheap i got mine off a friend for 10 bucks. you could even get a drop base if you wanted a bigger filter then head to napa get a 5 dollar filter and your good to go unless you want a k&n.

yeah i think going with a smaller diameter stock style fan instead of a flex fan is what im going to do. with the flex fan you have to buy the fan, and then you have to buy the spacer which is kindof a rip off. ill have to find a car with a smaller diameter fan, we have like 5 junkyards here so that wont be a problem, i could find one relatively easily.
and for air filters ive decided on this one

i will be cutting up the hood at the painted 'louvers' so i will have fresh air into the engine bay, and i think with that filter ill be able to take advantage of that best

well alot of people on here dont like them since the reason is that if your car backfires threw the carb and hits that it will melt and go down the carb which is not good
some people run them though i had one for about 20 mins wouldnt fit under the hood so i took it back. get a drop base 14 inch round air filter and if you put a k and n on there it will flow more than enough for your engine and future upgrades and 14x2.5 k and n flows at like 1200cfm
