"High" Position A/C-Heater Switch Problem

The a/c-heater blower motor in my 89 2.8 Firebird will not operate when the a/c-heater switch is turned to "high". The switch, however, causes the blower motor to operate in the "low" and "medium" positions. Recently, I replaced the switch, the blower motor and the relay (with the coiled wire) with all new parts and installed all of them at the same time, but the blower motor still would not operated in the "high" position of the switch. I was told that I might have to run a wire directly from the connections on the wire terminals of the "high" position of the switch to the corresponding terminal connections on the blower motor. Has anyone on this forum had any experience with this problem. Your input would be greatly appreciated. Capitol Bill

Sorry, I should have said that I replaced the resistor which is located on top of the fan motor asembly; not the relay. Capitol Bill

if thats the case, it sounds like there is a problem with the blower high relay, power feed, relay itself, ect.

Dave, where is that relay located? In the Blower motor assembly or in the engine bay somewhere? Can you tell me where it is located and what it looks like or what wiring harness is in ? I am assuming that it is a relay that you are talking about? Thanks! Bill

ok, it is in the engine compartment, should be screwed to the blower case somewhere, IIRC it is a silver or gold metal relay with 4 wires, two of which are heavy red wires

I'm having this same problem. It's kinda strange. I'm going to try to replace the resistor. The relay wasn't the problem when I changed that.

To: Dave Y-- Thanks for your info and interest. I just got back from Arizona today and just got done reading your message, so I haven't had a chance to check the relay out.

To: Blue89RS-- You can try the resistor which I hope will solve your problem, but in my case, I tried two new resistors and neither solved the problem. Can you tell me exactly where the relay is you checked and waht color it is and what color wires run to it? Thanks, Bill
