Fan works when a/c is on but not when its off
Hi, I need to know why my fan works when the A/C is on but when I turn it off the fan doesn't work. Some people at NAPA told me that I need a new fan switch, but I figured I would ask you guys before I go wasting any money.
Thanks,

Although your switch won't look like the one in the following thread, you can check its location:

Make sure that it's hooked up.

Your fan is controlled by two switches. A thermal switch on the passenger head turns on the fan when engine temp reaches a certain setpoint. A second switch turns on the radiator fan whenever the A/C is on. This is required to pull air across the condenser coils in front of the radiator so the A/C will work when the car isn't moving (no airflow across the coils).

If the thermal switch is in the intake manifold near the thermo housing and is functioning correctly, it should work fine (although perhaps come on a bit later). Still sounds like the switch.

You can test the switch by heating it in water and checking for continuity across the terminals. It should close when the water temp reaches the switch setpoint. You'll need a thermometer in the water to verify correct setpoint.
Or you can try a new switch.
And place it in the correct position on the pass head. Will work in the neck but may need different temp setpoint there as JamesC implied.
