Where to Mount Coolant Temp Sensor

The new heads I have don't have provisions for the coolant temp sensor. Where is another place I could put this? Could I tap it into the lower rad hose right after the water pump?

Is this the top or bottom line?

The line that goes from the intake to the heater. Only other place that i would recommend is the thermostat.

In the lower rad house will (should) be much cooler than the engine temp, having passed through the radiator.

How would one tap into this heater core line? This may be the fix I need!

I was thinking about just drilling a hole into the rubber that is smaller than the threading by say 1/16th circumference, twisting it in, and then sealing it with blue RTV. All of this of course after draining that line.

I may try something along that line but I think Ill splice the hose and put a plastic splitter in there and then drill and theread the plastic then of course seal it as well. I would drill a hole in the rubber as you mentioned but with my luck id prolly leak.

look on your intake manifold if u have a carb... thier should be a spot, if not use your thermostat housing.

Temp switch

Even if it didn't blow it out under pressure don't think
it would give you a true reading unless you had your
heater control valve open
No flow closed.
The best and cleanest way if you can't find a spot is to
drill and tap either heads or manifold also hardest, heads
off. Id call the head manufactorer as to exact location.
If not savy, have it done, cheap to do.

What kind of heads don't have coolant ports?

If housing aluminum find someone who can weld
it and install a bung and thread it for your sensor
Set it up so sensor doesn't hurt flow depth wise and
sensor installed clears external objects

I'd still go manifold or head but more work

Later

Brodix RR200s. They have ports, but not for the sensor.

How would you get it into the thermostat housing though? By tapping it into the actual manifold?

Replace the thermostat housing with one that has ports already in it. You could put the sensor into an intake manifold port too, if you've got any.

See thats the thing, I don't see any manifold ports...It is just the stock 1990 TPI base...did it have any? I am just not seeing them.

2 sensors on front of tpi intake just below throttle body to the left. the one on the left is the coolant temp sensor. also sends signal to the ecm to control the fan.

I just got a set of brodix ik180's. I just has the shop where I got them from tap a bung into the head for the sensor. Only cost 15 bucks.

Darn, wish I would have thought of doing that before I put them on. 15$ aint bad, I thought it would have been this gigantic project that would have run me over 100$.
