cooling fans stopped working
I have an 85 iroc with the tpi. It came stock with a single electric cooling fan, I came across an 88 Iroc for parts and it had the dual electric fans. I switched them out. I cut the harness for the fans in both cars and i kept the plugs for the dual fans and wired them into the single fan wires. All went well for a couple of months and then driving down the highway it started to get hot. I stopped at the nearest gas station to check the wires and everything was good. When I turned the key to the run position the fans turned on but once I started the engine they stopped again. I can't find a relay for them. the local parts store carrys one for my car but the only relay under my hood that is similar is the fuel pump relay. Anyone have any ideas.

have a look next to youre battery, down near the radiator.
There should be a relay, that (I think) is the fan relay.

Is there any more detail you can give. Someone put an alarm on the car and there is a lot of wiring in that paticular part of the car. The alarm doesn't work but i'm hesitant to just start pulling wires.

Re: cooling fans stopped working
If you have the fuel pump relay on the firewall, driver's side, it could the same relay that is used for the fans on earlier models. The relays changed locations and type on diff years/models. Pull the fan motor pigtail out and do a continuity check between it and your suspect relay pigtails. Only way to know for sure. Just make sure you're not checking continuity to ground.
Another check is to pull the wire to the temp switch pass side head and ground it with ignition on. This should turn on the fan.
If you're running two fan motors through the relay/wiring designed for one, your overloaded circuit could be the cause of your problems.

That's what I figured. I just want to know what fried. I changed the fuel pump relay after this happened to check but it still does it.

there is a small ledge over the front of the battery look under that ledge near the radiator up on the frame (behind where the headlight is mounted) there should be a relay there, now im not 100% but I think that is the fan relay.

Thank you I will look tomorrow. Is there anything else I should look for? I was gonna put the relay from the other car since it was designed for two fans but it's not the same design.

Re: cooling fans stopped working
if you want to run 2 fans off the single fan system get 2x 4 pin 30A Relays (from any auto parts store) and set it up like this:

Sorry it is rough, i just rushed it.
but you will still need to fix youre current problem before this will work.
This way you are not ripping out any factory wiring all you are doing is cutting it and putting a new system infront of it (very easy to revert back to stock if needed)
Hope it helps, P/M me if you need to know anything.

'get 2x 4 pin 30A Relays (from any auto parts store) ' ...or use your old fuel pump relay that you recently replaced.
