Radiator fluid inside car!
Radiator fluid inside car!
Took the IROC to the bank today and had a odor inside the car. When i got to the bank, i saw the passenger side floor filled with radiator fluid! Good thing i didnt drive far and didnt overheat. I called a buddy of mine and he said there is another radiator for the heater? I did have the fan on high, but was not running the heater or running air conditioning. I didnt even blow air, but the switch was on high. I let it cool and took it to the nearest gas station and filled it with water while running. Then i drove it home and it got as high as 220 F. Is this an easy fix or do i have to take it to a mechanic? Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Radiator fluid inside car!
My friends car did this and its problem was that the heater core was leaking. It is a pretty easy fix. If it was my car i would do it myself.

no need for a mech. just bypass it with a cheap Elbow (L shape) or straight hose to hose attachment. fix sometime in the next 6 months -- unless you live in a cold climate right now, then fix asap. but to fix that: pull the hoses that connect to the heater core from inside the engine bay at the firewall. connect them together.
inside the car: pull mat and spray down with water hose good
inside the car @ floorboard: get a couple of gallons bucket - or water hose like i did, poor water into floorboard. Get shop vac and vacuum up (make sure you don't have a filter in the shop vac... or it will get wet, which is bad). do this 3-10 times.
poor some liquid soap onto floorboard. scrub a lot, do this until green color is gone and the smell is gone. rinse with water and vacuum up

Yea your heater core is done, same thing happened to me, i was driving with the heat on during cool spring night and all a sudden i got steam coming from my vents then a bit later about 2 litres of coolant in my passanger side. i bypassed it but it is an easy fix gonna do mine soon
Re: Radiator fluid inside car!
it was replaced, i did it myself. took about 3 hours because i didnt know what i was doing. the next one will take me 1 hour to do. sometimes you just get misleading information, even from experts.

The right tools don't make changing the heater core on a non A/C Camaro any more pleasant.

Re: Radiator fluid inside car!
Any helpful tips for me I am in the process of trying to replace my heater core. Took dash pad off, removed speaker, removed some silver looking box( not even sur where to put it back either anyone have a picture for me)over off of where heater core is and stopped. I need to drain fluid from radiator and disconnect hoses but not sure how to do either one. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Look for a drain petcock on the rear side of one of the radiator side tanks. To disconnect the hoses, undo the hose clamps, and pull the hoses off the heater core pipes from the firewall side.

its the "Wall" behind the motor between the motor and dash area. the very rear wall of the engine bay. also look to the passanger side of the firewall for the hoses.
