Taking my a/c system out... good or bad?
I'm in the process of putting a new motor in my '88 Firebird, and I've decided that I really don't need the a/c there at all, since I doubt it works and the car has t-tops anyway. So what's the trouble with pulling the a/c components out and leaving nothing in its place? Besides that whole "ozone" thing, of course. And I'll be doing this while there's no motor in the car, if that makes any difference.

Are you planning on keeping the car permanently? One thing to think about is nowadays cars are being sold across long distances because of websites like this one and also ebay. Where I live I wouldn't even consider buying one with the a/c removed. The a/c doesn't work in my GTA, but at least later on when I have the money to fix it I know the necessary parts are there.

However, if you intend to remove it:
"I doubt it works" is kinda puzzling. Regardless, do not simply unbolt the
freon hoses anywhere, until you've released the pressure, by either of
the service valves. Do this under cover of darkness, so as not to draw
any attention from the Environment police, or nosey neighbors.

Then decide if you want to go the AC-box-delete route -- search for
various threads here.
And there are also AC-delete pulleys available to replace the compressor
in the serpentine belt configuration.

Stop yelling. The only good will be the weight that is saved from the AC delete. It will also clean up your engine bay. Thats about it.
