Overheating Issue, help please!

I have a 92 RS with the 5.0 305. It has been overheating for about 2 months now. I have replaced the coolant, put in a 180 degree thermostat, flushed the system, replaced sensors, replaced water pump, and cleaned the radiator but it still overheats like crazy. The fan also runs all the time so that cannot be an issue. It is not burning oil and there is no coolant in the oil. Can anyone help me? Thanks

have it tested to see if the exhaust is blowing up thru the exhaust for possible head gasket or warped head.

Re: Overheating Issue, help please!

My cooling problem was from the broken/missing spoiler underneath the radiator. It deflects air up into the radiator. It made a big difference for me.

Okay, would the car run rough if the heads were distorted?

Ya, I don't think mine has an air dam, it just has the intake next to the a/c radiator and coolant radiator. But, like I said, it has only been doing it for two months. I will definitely check the heads though.

Re: Overheating Issue, help please!

You need the air dam. Is it overheating when you drive at low speed around town, or just when driving at higher speeds? If the fan is running fast enough it should stay cool enough at low speed.

Re: Overheating Issue, help please!

I have had the car for a year and a half, i have never had the air dam, and it just started to overheat. It is probably a good thing to look into but will not solve the problem at this point. How do you test your heads to see if they are damaged or distorted?

Re: Overheating Issue, help please!

You definitely need an air dam! Otherwise there is no cool air to cool down the coolant in the radiator. I bought my car from a Chevy dealer in town, and it had no Air Dam, no Thermostat, and a bad radiator. I had to replace all 3 items. But for the Air Dam, I just made one work from off a sunfire, but it works, and looks good too.

Here's a pic of my GTA with my make shift air dam.

Re: Overheating Issue, help please!

OOPS, I forgot to ask. Is the fan turning like REALLY fast, or is it possible its lost some of its power running all the time? I also assume you got the reverse rotation water pump when you replaced it? Again, when you drive slow around town does it overheat? Or will it overheat sitting still?

Re: Overheating Issue, help please!

I took a look and I do have an air dam. And i did buy the correct water pump. It overheats all the time. and the fan moves quite well, i tested the voltage and it was great. I am really leaning towards the heads. Is there any way to test them without tearing into them?

Re: Overheating Issue, help please!

i forget what kind of test it is that you put where the radiator cap is and it will tell you if exhaust is coming up thru your coolant but you can also do a compression test to make sure they are sealed.
