What is the plastic piece above as indicated by the red arrow? I am running a stand alone cooling fan with the sensor in the head.

Maybe for a low coolant sensor?
I don't know if I'd trust just that fan you got, its really limited on how much area it covers. It needs a shroud, so it can pull air though most of the core.I was running one of those, I blew a head gasket on my v6 camaro, cause the fan couldn't keep up on a hot day.

Re: 84 camaro radiator ?

Doesn't matter how many CFM it is if it doesn't cover enough of the rad.

I see that summit or jegs has an aluiminum shroud for 90 bucks. Universal type.

Re: 84 camaro radiator ?

My car has a steel line that threads into the open that seems to be plugging up, not entirely sure what it does though. Some sort of trans cooler maybe? It looks like the line runs off in that direction but its too dark to see right now.

Re: 84 camaro radiator ?

It was bought for an 84 carb model.. the 2 red plugs are for the transmission lines. I can see that this white plug is open to the main core and it just snaps in place. Unknown if it is sealed as is...

Yes, the fan isn't cooling enough of the core to get sufficent cooling. The more coverage the better.

Re: 84 camaro radiator ?

Not sure what the plug is for (that radiator is used on many apps), but it has 2 internal o-rings and it is open to the inside, but it isnt threaded so just leave that plug in it.

I just put one of those radiators with the same plug in my 86 TPI yesterday and it did not leak a drop...go for it

Re: 84 camaro radiator ?

Thanks for the replys. I ran my other 84 with just a clutch mechanical fan and no shroud through 2 summers and never had any cooling issues. This should pull quite a bit more air across the rad at idle than the clutch fan ever did.
