Heater not hot

Quick question to the forum. I recently swapped my 91 camaro from TBI to Carburetor. I have a brand new heater core and 2 core aluminum radiator installed. I have my heater hoses routed from the front of the intake manifold to one side of the heater core and from the heater core to the radiator. My car runs at around 190 once it is warmed up. The issue I have is the heater only gets luke warm at best. I have changed my radiator fan settings to not turn on until 190 and am out of ideas what could be the issue. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Heater not hot

None of those hoses should run strait to the radiator. One should run to the top of the water pump, and the other to the top of the intake. The only ones that run to the radiator are from the water neck and bottom of the water pump.

Re: Heater not hot

My water pump only has an outlet on the bottom. There is no other spots to connect to the water pump?

Mine has 2, one from the bottom that goes to the lower radiator and one on the top that comes from the heater core. Are you sure you have the right model water pump?

My water pump is from an 88 model car and I don't believe that there is any difference between it and yours, cananyone else chime in to verify?

Re: Heater not hot

well this car originally was a tbi setup and I just swapped it out for a carburetor. I never changed the water pump. I can take a pic of the water pump if that helps, but all it will show is a 1/4" hole that is in the top and the lower outlet to the radiator.

I'm thinking I need to replace my water pump to fix this issue. I appreciate the help.

Ok,

I just went out to look at mine.

My heater core has two ports. One on the right and one on the left. the one on the right, goes to a hose, that is connected to the top of the water pump. My water pump definitely has two ports on it. One small one on the top to go with the big one on the bottom.

The left hand port on the heater core goes to the front of the intake manifold.

Re: Heater not hot

If you have a serpentine belt set up, you need to get a "reverse rotation" water pump. Get one with the two ports on it. This iskey, DO NOT get a reverse flow pump, those are only for LT1 and LT4 motors.

the radiator only has two ports on it. the top one on the drivers side, goes to the top of the radiator. The bottom one goes to the bottom of the water pump.
