I have done several searches on the use of the 4th Gen Battery tray/Coolant bottle mod. Installation seems pretty straight forward but if someone is using a new tank, there are issues. The hose that goes from the tank to the radiator has not been made for years. Has anyone fabricated this pipe? It looks like aluminum connected to a rubber hose before going to the radiator. Rock Auto lists a Coolant Recovery Hose, and a Coolant Water Crossover Mounting Set. Would the Mounting set go over the tube to seal it to the tank?

I am not exactly sure what your're asking, but any piece of hose from the coolant overflow to the radiator is fine. Make something from stainless, or aluminum, or cupro-nickle, silicone, rubber, teflon... The 4th gen setup is not a pressurized vessel like it is in later vehicles, it just hold coolant when it gets warm and expands and has to go somewhere.

The crossover is for the head coolant lines, that would go back to the radiator too, not the overflow

 

I'm talking about the piece that goes into the tank. From what I read, its an expansion tank that will catch water when hot and return water to the cooling system when cold. I would think there would need to be a tube running to the bottom of the tank. This is what I am asking. The tube that goes into the tank. What size, how far, how is it sealed to the tank. That hole is something like 1" going into the tank.

 

Oh, I forgot about that. You're probably better off getting a used one for that part. Or if you get a tubing bender and a rubber grommet you could make it.
You don't HAVE to have it though, you could just run a rubber hose in there all the way to the bottom, as long as it is under coolant it will siphon back into the radiator when it cools down.

Thanks, I keep that in mind. I am probably months away from needing it. I am doing major work and trying to get all the little things lined up for when the weather breaks.

 

I was JUST wondering this actually! I am about to do this modification in a week, I was wondering about the plumbing and planned on using a length of rubber hose, im just concerned about sealing it up from splashing or slight amount of pressure to and from the tank during hot/cold cycles. Not sure if I need the metal tube and grommet or just to do the length of rubber like I planned on doing... hmmm

I just mounted mine after I replaced a rusted out battery tray. It actually fit good. That bracket underneath needs to be relocated. I'm putting the battery in the trunk and putting the ECM on top of the gen 4 reservior.

that would be cool. not if you are too busy though? may be i'll get everything ran and mounted with rubber and the inner fenders painted in the meantime so tha if/when you make it i can swap it in place of the rubber

im still waiting on my transmission though, so the car wont be driving for another week or so
