repairing a/c cannot find parts

Hey guys. 90 firebird v6. My condenser and compressor are both leaking. I want to replace them both, I however am having a hard time finding a condenser in stock for my car. What is your go to for these parts??
I also need the vacuum switch on the back of my heater/ac control unit and no luck with finding that either. Any help is appreciated.

For reference, rock auto has the compressor but condenser is out of stock

Re: repairing a/c cannot find parts

What about just doing the upgrade? Not sure how different the V-6 setup is from the V-8's, but when I did mine (R4 pancake style to the 134a Rotary style) upgrade, it was very easy and worth it economically to me because of the ready availability of the parts, everything is new again, etc. The other pluses is that it is a more reliable system/compressor (sandan style), lighter, less HP draw...you get the point. Just an idea to consider if your going to drop the money anyway. I bought mine from Original Air- they have kits that will give you basic up to every single thing you could need, depending on what you want to replace. They are all inclusive of what you need for the conversion like adapter brackets and even the o-rings and oil. Probably could piece it together yourself for cheaper if you know exactly what you need and are doing. just my $ .02.

Not seeing an upgrade kit for a v6 on there site and over twice the cost versus brand new of original set up. I can get everything, and planned on upgrading to the new coolant. But seems a mass outage of condensers. That being said, if they offered it for the v6, I would probably order it.

Re: repairing a/c cannot find parts

I just went through this and the only place that had one that actually shipped was Amazon. I ordered 3 or 4 and only 1 was actually delivered. The rest cancelled on me and refunded my money.

*edit - I just went and tried to find it and it says "currently unavailable" for that one too

This is how it happens. Quietly without anyone noticing parts for our cars are being discontinued.
Fuel Tank Vent Valve
Heater control vacuum valves
Horn buttons for 1990-1992 cars
Charcoal canisters
GM OEM distributors
And of course almost every interior trim part

how long you expect them to carry parts for?? theyr'e 30 years old- that's classic car age now
a couple years ago my 69 Camaro Z28 ( a restored car ) needed a water pump long SBC water pump - easy peezy right? no one carry's reman anymore AZ and Oreilly's both had New pumps - Um OK didn't fit because my Z28 has a hard line that goes between pump and T-cover fits GM pump but not UGH we are driving dinosaurs oh and points and condensers? LOL I bought 5 sets through a buddy for Standard ign almost fainted- $100!! and dealer cost no less that's only brand made like they cared about quality too - Delco-crap! wake up people its only going to get worse!

All of these are OEM only type of parts. You shouldn't expect to see even repros of these until there is a big demand for parts that looks exactly like what originally came in the cars. Outside of them being "AC Delco" original parts I don't think any of these were made and sold by aftermarket companies

It's just a good reminder to think twice before scrapping parts you think would be plentiful for a long time.

Re: repairing a/c cannot find parts

The heater/a/c control switch is discontinued also. Chevrolet dealer gave me the part number of 15-71152 delco for my 92. Ordered it though ebay, It doesn't work the controls correctly. Also the part# application says it fits a 93 full size chevy, and many various other GM vehicles but does not fit a camaro. I'm looking for the correct switch or a part# for the correct switch.
As for the blower motor fan switch I believe Amazon and Rock Auto show them.

Don't Lose Your Cool

"........back ordered through August. Summit........"

That's usually a worse case senario.

Many times Summit ships earlier than expected.

Get that thing on order now, to get it ASAP.

Re: repairing a/c cannot find parts

I can buy every single nut, bolt and part including an entire car from scratch on a 1955 chevy. These are not 1980s cavaliers, there is a market for these cars and enough money to be made in them with others still producing plenty of parts

Re: Don't Lose Your Cool

Spectra actually responded to me that they no longer make this part nor will they be in the future so anyone using spectra such as summit and jegs listing as back ordered are never actually going to be able to fill said orders

Re: repairing a/c cannot find parts

Are you still looking for a condenser? Not sure if the V8 condensers are any different that those from a V-6 (don't see why they'd be any different), but I'll be pulling mine out of my GTA this weekend. Actually, I'll be pulling the entire A/C out of the car. If you want it, send me a PM.
