Plastic piece behind front bumper missing

Does the plastic piece that red arrow points to help in cooling the radiator? It is not on my car. What happens if it's not there?

It's damn near critical. Think of it as a ram air for the radiator.

All the pieces of the cooling system that Pontiac installed on these cars are crucial for cooling. Since you own a Firebird you have probably noticed it doesn't have a front grill. Ours cars are bottom breathers and everything that goes on the front bottom needs to be there as Pontiac designed it.

But I don't own a Firebird. I own a Z28. I don't know if that matters.

Oh I got confused by the picture you posted of a Firebird front end and your member bio on the side doesn't say Camaro or Firebird and either way it needs all the pieces and parts GM designed for it to have.

Just to make sure the part you are asking about is the big air dam in the center?

91 Z28 is in my signature. The only reason I showed a pic of a Firebird is that was the only pic I could find showing the part in question. Sorry about the confusion. I'm NOT talking about the air damn. I have that. I'm talking about the part with the red arrow on it that connects to the front bumper.

I would appreciate it if you would report back on if it solved your issues. Thank you.

Sorry about that. Blind as a bat I guess. I was focused on the Firebird front end. I'm a Firebird guy so everything is Firebird to me. I have to make an effort to remember there was the Chevy Camaro too.

Since you car was a 1991 Z28 I assume it was TPI and now since you have converted to carb you might want to setup those front end pieces like a TBI car was for 1991/1992 TBI.

1982–1992 Camaro Front Bumper Filler Panel | Replaces GM #14019578 | Non-TPI Models

I don't know what was different there in the center middle lower section between TPI and TBI but something is different. I don't have a diagram to point it out.

Re: Plastic piece behind front bumper missing

That's nice. Us Firebird guys can't do that because of our lower hood line. Our TPI air intake sucks compared to the Camaro.

new fan motors, and reinstalling the plastic nose piece, kept her around 180, while out test driving, it did the trick

Re: Plastic piece behind front bumper missing

I know this is an old thread but I believe BBCSwap was talking about the curved piece that shows up in the 2nd picture of the first post in this thread.

https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/body...-plastics.html

It's part number 63 when you look at the 89-90 front end/sheet metal parts diagram. I've not been able to find a reproduction piece for this anywhere. Very occasionally they show up on eBay for stupid prices and almost never sold individually.

Re: Plastic piece behind front bumper missing

I found the part on Marketplace. Very good condition. He has other parts. https://www.facebook.com/marketplace...rral_code=null

Before & after pic. I will have to wait until it's 80+ degrees outside (probably Aug.) to see if it makes any difference. I will report back.
