VATS/PROM Issue

Ok people, i think my Vats messing up is causing my car not to start, so I want to just throw in a prom that DOESNT have the vats option. I have no clue about any of this prom stuff, but thats what has been recommended to me-

how do i get a new prom w/o VATS and how much do they cost?
where does the prom go? where does it plug into?

PLEASE HELP, I HAVE NO CAR UNTIL ITS FIXED--

Well. There is a couple things you can do..

Scenario 1:

* Purchase burning equipment
* Downlod GMPCM, WinBin, etc (GMPCM is sweet - and I'm
a TC user!)
* Purchase prom adapter (from moates typically)
* Burn a 7730 bin, and tune while your there

Scenario 2:

* Buy the adapter
* Convince someone to burn you a STOCK prom with vats
disabled, if you promise NOT to ask for any "tuning"

Scenario 3:

Take your car to a dealer and fix the problem, to retain your
security.

While on this subject,
I have an 88 350 TPI GTA with VATS and I was wondering if I just run an 87 non VATS 350 prom to disable it.
Thanks in advance.

Yes, but you'll need to short your starter relay which is in the kickpanel on the drivers side.

86-88 is $32B, 89 is $6E.

Car won't crank BUT you don't get a security light while in the crank position.

ok heres my scenario--

Turn the key to RUN-- everything works like normal- radio, headlights all come on like they're supposed to
the SECURITY light comes on for 2 seconds, then goes off, like normal-

when you try to crank the car, nothing happens- the gauges ping to the right like normal, but nothing happens- the starter doesnt crank or even tick- nothing happens-

???

Sounds like your starter relay crapped out. Usually (I may be wrong, but I don't think so) the security light will go on solid when the key is in the CRANK position if its a VATS failure.

If you wanna rule that out, push start your car. (give it a good pushah, and let the clutch out in SECOND). If it doesn't start,
then it _may_ be vats. But I doubt it.

Erm.. like 5 or 6 mph.. You and a buddy could do it on level surface w/out issue..

I dunno about autozone, I'd imagine so but. I've always just shorted them.

well, HITHERE spent 3 hours today messing with the starter/solenoid- NO DICE-- when HITHERE use HITHERE screwdriver to connect the solenoid/starter wires, the flywheel spins normally-- HITHERE even took the old starter off and tested it and it was fine. HITHERE GIVE UP!! it makes no sense to me..

do you have any more suggestions?
what does the starter relay do? could that be the problem?
please help as HITHERE'm pretty aggitated

Has something to do with that relay, or the starter circuit.

Or your crank fuse is blown.
