Should I go TBI or Port Injection??

Okay, I've got everything nailed down on my new engine except the induction sysetem. I've ruled out carbs because I do have the $$ for FI and I also want a Daily driver.

BUT, is it worth it to spring for the port injection? It costs more but are definite advantages to it? Gas mileage, more torque?

One thing that worries me with TPI is the fixed intake manifold. What if you decide to run your motor in the upper rpm band? You cant just order another intake man. like you could w/a TBI.

And I am definitely NOT going with the stock GM TPI or TBI. - I plan on going with a commander 950 system to make my life simpler.

Any ideas or suggestions? Thanks!

Depends on the cam.
Try an Accel SuperRam or Holley Stealth ram.
Unless you want a more conventional style manifold. Then use the other style Holley.
The tuning method will be the same, regardless.

Yeah the stock TBI gets a bad rap because of its **** poor performance on the L03 motor, but I've heard of people with aftermarket TBI making some good power. Find the member Kingalt0n and ask him about the Holley TBI systems. I think he was making some pretty good power with that setup. Like you said, just stay away from the stock TBI LOL!! As for the other choices, choose your intake based on the powerband you want. There are quite a few choices for our 1st gen blocks (TBI, TPI, LT1, StealthRam, MiniRam, Superram). Do you want low end torque? Then go TPI. You want high end HP? Go with the StealthRam. Use the search button to get more info on each intake. Grumpyvette is pretty much THE MAN when it comes to getting good factual data about each type of intake.

If it's within your budget: a wet flow system like TBI will never match a point fuel injection system. MPFI is just better.

I'm not say that a stealth ram won't do better... but I'm just dynoed my car yesterdday and I'm now at 298hp and 411tq with a stock 305 tbi unit ( i did the ultimate tbi on it but the injectors and bore are stock sizes) if you want more power ... make a good engine first... then put a better fuel system on it...
ps... the motor is not a 305... its a 350 with 10:1 and a zz4 cam and 305 heads...
just my opinion

Oddly enough but as the aftermarket ecms go for getting the systems to run well, the closer they get to the oems.

It takes a certain level of sophistication to get an engine to run well. Something the aftermarkets are finding out, notice how they continually update?.

Not to mention if your building a street car and risk going on trips, a spare stock ecm is generally junkyard available, not many aftermarkets are replaceable without at least a 3 day wait.
