No start, no codes

1992 305/5spd. Bought not running as project. Car cranks, but does not start. When I jumper the ALDP nothing flashes. Do I have a bad ecm (maybe a bad bulb in dash)? I just want to get it running to see what else it needs and so I can move it when necessary.

Re: No start, no codes

Do a key-on, engine-off, is the SES/CEL light on the dash lit up? If not check that the ECM is still there and plugged in. Then go under the hood and find the 20 A inline fuse and check it.

That fuse is the main power feed to the ECM. It will be located along the passenger side.

Re: No start, no codes

Fuse is good (next to battery).
SES light turns on and stays on when key is in run position.

Replaced fuel pump a few weeks ago and it pumps for 2-3 seconds when the key is turned on. Turns over and oil pressure registers (60 lbs).

Has VATS, but I don't have the resister key. Clutch switch has been bypassed.

Try this: at key-on, engine-off, the SES should turn on briefly, blink off, then turn on solid. Can repeat the test after 10 seconds of key-off.

If the blink-off occurs the ECM is running from the PROM. If there isn't any blink then either the PROM or the ECM is bad.

Then you will not get fuel from the injectors.
Need a simulator for the ECM input or get it programmed out.

Re: No start, no codes

Key on, SES blinks once then stays on. INFL RES blinks 5-6 times.

Put gas in the throttle body and engine starts right up and runs for a few seconds.

Re: No start, no codes

Ordered a chip from Custom Chips (John Wayne, Oscar Sebastion) waited 7 weeks and it never came. Communication fell off after 3 weeks. I had ordered a chip with VATS and EGR removed.

Re: No start, no codes

Anyone know where I can get a plug-in prom with VATS and EGR removed for a decent price? Need to get this thing running.

Re: No start, no codes

Shouldn't there be a VATS error code due to the resistorless key?

For the most part yes, there should be a VATs code set in the ECM. This is why I started my response to your thread about verifying that the ECM is actually running. Everything you did tests out OK, so you should be able to blink codes out.

Make sure that you are actually jumping pin A & B on the ALDL connector. Key-on, engine-off and the SES should be blinking code 12 to start with then any others, then back to 12.

Re: No start, no codes

Do I have this correct?

Is this the correct port and do I have it jumped right?
