Stock PROM's - What's compatible?

Can anyone tell me a list of cars/trucks that would have the PROM for my 92 RS L03 w/ 700R4 and your opinions on which would be best? Also, Can PROM's go bad and just fail?

It’s very rare for a prom to go bad. The 1228746 ecm was used on 89-92 f body’s and I’m not sure what year but it was used on the b body with a 350 automatic.
I think the latest tune was the axkt for your application.

Thanks a million, any insight on what makes/models I can snag one from? Such as C/K 1500 trucks, s-10's, caprice's, etc...

The programming language is different. You could use a truck 1227747 from a 305 tbi automatic truck. But the prom on the link is cheap . The symptoms of a bad prom is rapidly blinking check engine light. I’m not sure on your ecm If code 41 or 51 would show.

Re: Stock PROM's - What's compatible?

Went out to a local JY, they ran the 1992 Camaro RS 5.0L V8 through interchange applications for ECM's and came back w/ same year range Chevy Caprice. They had a 1989 & 1990 on the yard. Checked them out and the 1990 (VIN # 1G1BU54E6LA117153) was complete with a nice shiny 1228746 so I picked it up.

Anyone know the difference in the "tune" of the ATYR & the AXKT PROM's?

Atyr will work it’s for a 305 tbi automatic. I don’t have that file to do a file compare.

Re: Stock PROM's - What's compatible?

I've run the ATYR PROM and yes the car's derivable but that's it. I ended up ordering the AXKT PROM as you suggested, made the seller an offer of $19.99 and the seller accepted. So once it arrives I'll install it so I can at least know what the true factory tune performs like.

In the mean time, I did put the HyperTech HYP-122362 PROM back in (the newest 1228746) along with a 160 degree thermostat... runs noticeably different until code 44 pops, then performance takes a nose dive but that's another topic.

Re: Stock PROM's - What's compatible?

ATYR is for a Caprice, which is why it is lame in your 3rd gen.

Code 44 (O2 lean) can be the sensor or a failing fuel pump. It could be something else, such as the hypertech chip, Does the code ever pop up with the Caprice PROM?

RBob.

Yes that code popped no matter what ECM/PROM combo was in use...

Re: Stock PROM's - What's compatible?

*SOLVED*

Picked up a AXKT 1113 at a local yard today. It was pulled from a 90 RS w/ VIN # 1G1FP23E1LL130325. Total cost $0.00, cost was "included" with the Instrument/Gauge Cluster I snagged for $35.

So now that I have the Stock PROM, and another AXKT 1113 on the way that i'll keep as a spare I do consider this thread/matter resolved.

Thanks everyone!
